Origination Lead – Natural Gas
APMC is seeking an Origination Lead to support and grow its natural gas marketing portfolio. This role focuses on identifying, structuring, and securing new gas supply and market opportunities across the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. Combining commercial acumen with strong relationship management, the Origination Lead contributes to sourcing deals, negotiating agreements, and enabling downstream marketing and trading activities. Working closely with internal teams and industry partners, this role plays a key part in executing APMC’s commercial strategy and optimizing long-term value.
Responsibilities

Identify and pursue new natural gas supply and market opportunities (producers, aggregators, end-users).

Develop and maintain relationships with upstream producers, midstream counterparties, and downstream customers.

Lead commercial negotiations for gas purchase and sale agreements, transportation arrangements, and structured deals.

Support execution of APMC’s natural gas marketing strategy through deal origination and contract structuring.

Collaborate with trading, risk, and operations teams to align origination activities with market conditions and portfolio needs.

Evaluate and develop creative commercial structures to enhance value and mitigate risk.

Monitor market fundamentals, regional supply-demand dynamics, and infrastructure constraints.

Provide insights to support pricing, contract terms, and strategic positioning.

Lead or support negotiation of commercial agreements, ensuring alignment with company risk policies and governance.

Work cross-functionally with legal, credit, and risk teams through deal lifecycle (origination to execution).

Work closely with internal teams including trading, scheduling, risk management, finance, and leadership.

Represent APMC externally in industry discussions and commercial negotiations.

A minimum of 8 years of experience in natural gas marketing, origination, or commercial roles within the Alberta energy industry.

Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, or a related field.

Proven track record in deal origination, contract negotiation, and relationship management.

Strong understanding of Western Canadian gas markets, infrastructure, and pricing dynamics (AECO, Dawn, exports, etc.).

Commercial acumen with the ability to structure transactions and assess economic value and risk.

Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Experience in a fast-paced environment with multiple deliverables within a short time frame.

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g.: Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
