The Thousand Islands Watershed Land Trust is seeking a part time employee to support the delivery of our Education Program through the first four months of the school year.
Educator Support Responsibilities
The Educator Support employee will work under the direction of TIWLT’s Executive Director and the Education Lead to deliver on the Land Trust's conservation education program. Their duties will include:
- Assisting in creating and booking programs including field trips and classroom visits that focus on conservation, ecology, Land Trust work, and other related factors of TIWLTs charitable mission
- Preparing and delivering educational content for booked programs, which includes running activities for field trips and presenting for classes in local schools
- Aiding in hands-on education initiatives like schoolyard re-naturalization, public walks, educational events, and others.
- Participating in the grounds preparations at the Glen Elbe Learning Centre as may be needed, including lawn mowing, tree nursery care and trimming trails
- Being responsible for maintaining equipment and materials used in education programs.
- Being responsible for ensuring program evaluations, invoicing input where there are program fees, recording travel to presentations, materials ordering requests and general records keeping
- Liaising with the TIWLT Communications and Conservation Team as appropriate
- Approximately 10% other duties as assigned
The Educator Support employee will have a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle for work-related travel. They will work from the Land Trust’s Glen Elbe office space on a day-to-day basis.
This part-time position pays $27/hour and includes a $250 monthly fuel allowance. The employee will work for a days a week on a 7 hour work day. The contract runs from August 24th to December 18th, 2026 with possibility for extension based on job performance and funding.
About the TIWLT Education Program
The education program is a support and development program towards the trust’s conservation mission and projects. TIWLT’s niche in education in this region is conservation education. This program is intended to build both a community and culture of conservation throughout this watershed.
TIWLT’s conservation education is directed to a broad cross-section of the community. It will include the student population from kindergarten to adult. It will present to and engage with all ages and demographics of the community, and families, groups and organizations. Programs will be presented in-person, virtually and in broadcasts, seminars and workshops. Where possible, programs will offer hands-on and engaging experiences.
Among the approaches to TIWLT’s conservation education would be:
o Schoolyard re-naturalization
o Classroom visits and Glen Elbe Learning Centre experience programs
o Education aspects of events on TIWLT properties, and walks/excursions on trust properties, forest re-plantings, invasive species removals, bio-blitzes, Spooky Species events, TIWLT festivals and celebrations – and other such events that the educator would create and develop in support of the events and conservation teams.
o Literature about TIWLT and in support of classroom education
o Information sheets, lesson plans and other materials supporting conservation work and objectives.
