About the RoleThe Director of Communications, reporting directly to the COO, is responsible for directing all marketing & communications activities of the CQCC. The role is proactive, ensuring continual improvement and regular internal and external engagement activities that raise awareness of and interest in CQCC.
The role’s purpose is to:-
Execute the Marketing & Communications strategy, as aligned with CQCC’s overarching strategy;

Lead the strategy and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Marketing & Communications department, carrying responsibility for growing the reach and awareness of CQCC;

Direct and supervise all Marketing & Communications activities to meet organizational targets, from forecasting and budgeting to the production and execution of business plans, which align with CQCC’s strategic priorities and inform the Chamber’s Marketing & Communications operations;

Serve as a key champion of the CQCC culture, ensuring all Marketing & Communications policies and procedures are implemented in a way that embodies the Chamber’s mission and values; and
-
Lead and develop an internal team of direct reports who develop and implement strategies in their respective areas to achieve CQCC’s operational goals.
CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES Marketing & Communications The Director of Marketing and Communications provides oversight for CQCC’s entire range of marketing and communications activities, from managing the organization’s brand identity to developing and executing public relations strategies and campaigns. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Manage and oversee all marketing and communications strategies, ensuring all CQCC communication materials are developed with anti-oppressive and equity-centred principles and accessible and inclusive practices;

Directly respond, solve and provide advice to daily operational issues related to the Marketing & Communications department;

Create, refine and oversee the implementation of marketing and communications practices, plans and procedures; interpret, assist and advise employees and leaders regarding the application of Marketing & Communications services and strategies;
Managing Relationships The Director of Marketing and Communications builds and manages working relationships with CQCC’s internal and external partners, helping these partners accomplish their program objectives and contribute to CQCC’s strategic goals:

Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal partners in the execution of Marketing & Communications activities and initiatives;

Maintain rapport with internal and external partners and team members to exchange or gather information to assist in high-level Marketing & Communications planning and day-to-day decision making;
-
Build and maintain open and effective communication with vendors and suppliers, ensuring accountabilities are clarified, and service agreements are effectively implemented; and
-
Provide effective leadership to direct reports across marketing and communications functions, towards engaging job performance and achievement of their individual program targets, providing them with the necessary resources, coaching and support.
Problem Solving & Ownership The Director of Marketing and Communications analyzes and solves problems and addresses day-to-day issues to ensure smooth and efficient operations, help establish a supportive and empowering work environment, and contribute to the accomplishment of CQCC program objectives:

Develop and identify continuous improvement of all key Marketing & Communications processes to attain high effectiveness and efficiency;

Monitor and survey marketing and communications trends, emerging technologies, issues and approaches in the non-profit industry to proactively innovate and drive continuous improvement; and

Collaborate with Senior Leadership in the budgeting and development of CQCC Marketing & Communications plans, and provide coaching and support to direct reports in the development of their business plan specific to their roles.
CQCC & Personal Advocacy The Director of Marketing and Communications demonstrates personal leadership to fulfill the expectations of the role by taking ownership to personal development and assist in the development of others, guided by a strong commitment to the CQCC mission and strategic direction:

Ensure alignment of all Marketing & Communications processes and initiatives to the strategic direction of the CQCC;

Manifest engagement to CQCC’s goals, strategies and values in the day-to-day behaviours and administration of these processes and initiatives;

Seek performance input from CQCC CEO, COO and other CQCC team members to identify own performance gaps and inform personal development plan; and
-
Provide leadership, feedback and guidance to direct reports, ensuring they continue to be advocates of the CQCC in the performance of their job.
DESIRED COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCEEducation:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, or related field, or equivalent experience
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in senior Marketing & Communications leadership

Proven experience leading marketing and communications within a small-to-medium-sized organization, including setting proactive communications and public relations strategies, and monitoring, measuring, and improving performance

Exceptional communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate and to work with a variety of internal and external partners; highly developed presentation skills – verbal and written

Keen research, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound planning and decision-making

Proficient in technology skills using program management software, Microsoft Office Suite and CQCC administration tools (SharePoint, Power BI, Dynamics, Teams, Monday.com, Canva)

Strong leadership skills with experience in leading a geographically-dispersed team that includes managers

Demonstrated integrity, credibility and dedication to the organization’s mission and strategic direction

Previous experience working in a not-for-profit environment is preferred

Experience working with the 2SLGBTQI+ community is considered an asset

Terms This is a hybrid, full-time position based out of CQCC’s head office in Toronto, ON or Montreal, QC. Regular travel to events within the GTA and across Canada is required. Remote candidates based in Ottawa or Vancouver may be considered, provided they can meet regular travel expectations and attend in-person meetings, events, and organizational commitments as required.
CompensationSalary will be based on skills and experience, within the annual earnings range of $85,000 to $105,000. Additional benefits round out the compensation package, including group benefit plan coverage, annual vacation, and a generous public holiday schedule, including paid time off between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
