Job Description
We are currently hiring an experienced GPS Machine Operator / Construction Layout Surveyor to join our civil construction team in Grimsby, Ontario. The ideal candidate will have 3–4 years of experience using GPS equipment, CAD/AutoCAD software, GIS systems, and performing construction layout and surveying for underground utility and infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for site layout, grade checking, stakeout work, survey coordination, and supporting excavation and utility crews with accurate survey information and GPS machine control systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform construction layout and surveying for civil construction projects
- Operate GPS survey equipment and machine control systems
- Prepare and interpret site layouts using CAD/AutoCAD drawings
- Utilize GIS data and mapping systems for project coordination and layout
- Conduct site grading, elevations, and stakeout/layout work
- Read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, and engineering grades
- Assist operators and crews with accurate layout and excavation guidance
- Verify elevations, alignments, and utility locations
- Maintain survey records, measurements, and as-built information
- Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, engineers, and field crews
Requirements
- 3–4 years of experience in construction layout, GPS surveying, and civil construction
- Experience using CAD/AutoCAD and GIS software
- Experience with GPS machine control systems and surveying equipment
- Ability to read blueprints, grades, and engineering drawings
- Knowledge of site grading, excavation, and underground utility installation
- Valid Ontario driver’s license
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Assets / Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Topcon, Trimble, Leica, or Benchmark equipment is considered an asset
- Experience in sewer, watermain, and road construction projects
- Working at Heights certification
- WHMIS certification
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Surveying or civil engineering background is an asset
