Job Title: Pre-Apprenticeship Instructor (Contract – 8 Weeks)

IUPAT District Council 17 is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Contract Pre-Apprenticeship Instructor to lead an 8-week training program in Winnipeg, Manitoba, running July 27 through September 18, 2026, with potential onboarding and program preparation beginning the week of July 20, 2026.
This program is designed to introduce and prepare students for careers in the finishing trades through hands-on instruction, mentorship, and industry-based learning. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering curriculum, developing practical skills, and fostering a positive learning environment for students entering the trades.
Classes will be held at 168 Higgins Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, and applicants should reside in or near the Winnipeg area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver classroom and practical instruction in accordance with the revised pre-apprenticeship curriculum
- Teach and demonstrate commercial painting and finishing trade techniques, including:
– Airless spray application
– Brush and roll application
– Surface preparation and finishing systems
- Prepare lesson plans, materials, and supplies in advance of program launch
- Manage classroom dynamics and maintain a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment
- Mentor and support students as they develop foundational trade skills and workplace readiness
- Evaluate student participation, skill progression, and overall program engagement
- Maintain strong communication with program administrators and provide updates on student progress and program needs
- Promote safe work practices and proper use of equipment and materials at all times
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong commercial construction experience in painting and finishing trades is required
- Demonstrated skill and knowledge in airless spray, brush and roll application, and surface preparation
- Previous teaching, coaching, mentoring, or supervisory experience is considered a strong asset
- Ability to effectively manage and engage students in a classroom and hands-on training environment
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Red Seal Certification is considered a strong asset, but the ability to teach, mentor, and manage students is the primary qualification
- Preference will be given to current IUPAT members
- Must be organized, dependable, and committed to helping develop the future workforce
