Alpha Adroit is seeking a competent Engineering Technologist or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) for conducting the type of services we provide. More information on the type of Concrete Testing Services we provide is available at Alpha Adroit's Concrete Testing Services.
The successful candidate will be engaged in:

Concrete testing and aggregate testing according to CSA, ASTM, and AASHTO standards

Conducting field density testing on aggregates, soils, and other road construction materials using a nuclear density gauge
-
Lab testing on hot mix asphalt for volumetric properties and physical properties of aggregates
-
Field and lab testing for concrete materials
-
Testing different road construction materials in the laboratory
-
Proof rolling and inspection of sub-base, base, and pavements
-
Conducting maintenance of laboratory equipment and calibrate the testing equipment as necessary
-
Training seasonal staff, preparing test reports, and maintaining electronic test records and databases
-
Performing administrative functions and ensuring smooth operations, conducting job site hazard assessment, and following and implementing safety procedures and instructions
Qualifications
The following qualifications are required (or are considered an asset when not a requirement):

Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma or Civil or Geotechnical Engineering Degree
-
Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or eligible to be certified with the Association of Science & Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET)

Certified CCIL concrete tester and aggregate tester (certification is viewed as an asset but is not a mandatory requirement)

Minimum two (2) year of field and laboratory experience in inspection and testing of road and embankment construction materials, especially using a nuclear density gauge, hot mix asphalt testing, soil testing, and concrete testing

Knowledge of appropriate testing standards, specifications, Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), road construction engineering principles, routine and advanced concrete testing, soil and aggregate testing, and concrete and concrete plant operations

Experience with light-weight backfill, heavy-weight backfill, and soil and rock backfill materials is deemed an asset

Experience with using industrial waste as backfill material and soil-cement is viewed as an asset

Experience with rebar inspection for reinforced concrete construction, concrete form inspection, testing of hardened concrete, non-destructive tests, and measuring the compressive and tensile strength of concrete is regarded as an asset

Ability to operate field instruments and equipment are considered to be assets

Strong communication skill (both verbal and written), ability to interpret contract documents, drawings, and specifications according to the City of Edmonton Roadways Construction Standards (knowledge of the City of Calgary Standards is considered an asset)

Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google applications and software

Experience with soil and concrete sampling systems, environmental sampling, and environmental testing is deemed to be an asset
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license

Ability to perform substantial physical effort, including work under variable or harsh environmental conditions, standing for extended periods, and lifting up to 50 pounds (lbs.)
- Experience with testing of plastic concrete, zero-slump concrete, grout concrete, mortar, shotcrete, Portland cement, and roller-compacted concrete (RCC) is viewed as an asset
- Owning a truck and using it for work is considered an asset (we pay standard rate mileage) but is not a requirement.
