S&R Sawmills has a long history of Custom Cutting in the Lower Mainland. Role Description:
Reporting to the Shift Foreman, Boom employees are responsible for driving the boom boat (Sidewinder) and all aspects of water operations ensuring a steady flow of logs into the mills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safely breakup log booms, contain and secure logs designated for mill processing, and organize logs
- Operate the boom boat to feed loose logs into the mill
- Perform a pre-operation inspection of the boom boat and fill out the inspection report
- Arrange all boom gear (boom chains, swifter wire, bundle wire) into manageable piles in designated area
- Correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Identify, protect, and report safety hazards to management or a member of the safety committee
- Follow all Safe Work Procedures
- Other duties as assigned by the Mill Supervisors
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- Previous experience running a boom boat (steering and pushing logs)
- Physical demands require lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Strength, flexibility and endurance, working 8 hour shifts with few opportunities to rest
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with good communication skills
- Safety first attitude
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work (Mill is transit accessible)
- Must be able to do shift work (Day shifts are 7:00am – 3:30pm, Afternoon shifts are 3:30pm-12:00am)
