The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, commercially minded, and comfortable balancing risk management with business development objectives. You will be responsible for reviewing borrower profiles, property details, supporting documentation, and overall deal structure to determine whether applications meet the company’s lending guidelines and risk appetite.

- Assess borrower income, assets, credit history, liabilities, exit strategy, property details, loan-to-value, and overall deal strength.
- Identify key credit risks and mitigating factors, and provide clear underwriting recommendations.
- Structure mortgage transactions, including pricing, terms, conditions, security requirements, and funding timelines.
- Prepare and review commitment letters, renewal letters, amendments, and funding instructions.
- Work directly with mortgage brokers, lawyers, appraisers, and internal teams to manage deal flow and resolve underwriting or closing issues.
- Review third-party reports and documentation, including appraisals, credit reports, title-related information, corporate documents, income verification, and property details.
- Ensure all required borrower and property documentation is collected, verified, and properly documented prior to funding.
- Maintain accurate pipeline records and update internal tracking systems with timely deal status, conditions, and notes.
- Monitor market trends, property values, borrower risk indicators, and portfolio considerations relevant to underwriting decisions.
- Support renewals, extensions, amendments, and other post-funding credit reviews as required.
- Provide guidance to junior team members or support staff where appropriate.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in finance, business, economics, or a related field.
- 1–2 years of experience in financial services, lending, or real estate (preferred but not required).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with brokers and clients.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple files in a deadline-driven environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with mortgage or underwriting software is an asset.
- Eagerness to learn and grow within the private lending industry.
