Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Warehouse Shipper to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for serving customers in the lumberyard. The Shipper loads and unloads material, stored in the proper locations. The Shipper maintains shipping, loading, unloading and delivery schedules as organized with sales staff, customers, contractors, and warehouse/yard manager. The Warehouse/Yard shipper must safely perform all assigned tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to avoid adverse impact on the level of service to customers and to achieve operating efficiencies. Shippers must also greet and serve yard customers. The Warehouse Shipper will be familiar with inventory, prices, returns and exchange policies.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Organize and facilitate delivery schedules that provide customer expectations while maintaining an efficient and cost-effective schedule.
Recruit help from other staff picking orders with assistance from warehouse/yard manager to keep delivery orders ready and delivered on time.
Help Develop and maintain shipping/receiving, unloading, and delivery procedures and new ideas to improve efficiency.
Must load or assist loading delivery trucks when possible, according to provincial or federal procedures to perform efficient delivery schedules.
Plan & Group deliveries together, when possible, to create cost-effective delivery schedules.
Report out-of-stock items to the appropriate personnel.
Report surplus items to the appropriate personnel.
Restock product during picking orders, without causing deficiencies in delivery schedules timelines.
Pick orders neatly and organized to minimize damage to product and store in appropriate location as not to cause damage or spoiling.
Bring actual or anticipated operating problems promptly to the attention of warehouse/yard manager or management.
Suggest rule or policy changes when you think such changes would improve efficiency, profits, sales, morale, and / or general operations.
Provide a good example while picking orders, to assist other staff to comply, with standard order picking practices and company policies and procedures.
Acknowledge customers in a friendly manner and aid whenever it is required.
Must communicate effectively with customers, management, employees, wholesaler / manufacturer representatives, and delivery personnel.
When filling orders, ask for add-on sales
Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.
Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation.
Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management to have the situation corrected.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Have excellent mathematical skills.
Must read, comprehend, and interpret written and printed materials and information provided in numerical and statistical form.
Must be trained (training provided) and safely operate equipment required for efficient yard operation, including lumber carts, forklifts, pallet jacks, order pickers, banding machine, ladders, radial arm saw, etc.
Be comfortable using computers, various electronic devices, and software programs (ex. Cell phones, GPS, POS Scanners, MS Word, MS Excel, email etc.)
Must move materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
Must be well-organized and be an excellent multi-tasker.
AVAILABILITY:
Be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
