The Position
The ED is the operational leader of EDSA, reporting directly to the President, and through the President to the volunteer Board of Directors. She or he serves as the Association Secretary.
The ED is responsible for all operations and staffing of the Association within the budgetary limits as directed by the Board, and ensuring compliance with the Association’s Bylaws, Rules & Regulations, and Policies. The ED is expected to recommend changes, amendments, or revocations of these to the Board as they are identified. Additionally is responsible for coordinating the disciplinary process under the Rules and Regulations of the Association.
The ED is also responsible for member engagement, stakeholder engagement, and public representation of the Association. This entails dealing with other soccer Associations in Edmonton, Alberta, and nationally, the media, and the City of Edmonton and the Province of Alberta.
Some evening and weekend work is required, as is a vehicle.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute long‑term organizational strategies aligned with EDSA’s mission, values, and strategic plan.
- Governance Support: Supports the Board of Directors through reports, policy recommendations, strategic planning initiatives, and implementation of Board decisions.
- Operational Oversight: Lead year‑round planning, budgeting, risk management, Outdoor and Indoor competitions scheduling, and special events.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with soccer Associations, including the Alberta Soccer Association and the Canadian Soccer Association, sponsors, funders, government partners, and members.
- Leadership: Mentor and support a small staff team and large volunteer network.
- Financial Management: Responsible for budget preparation, financial oversight, financial reporting, internal controls, and long-term financial sustainability.
- Fund Development: Oversee sponsorships, grants, donor relations, and revenue‑generating initiatives.
- Human Resources: Recruit, supervise, evaluate, and develop staff while fostering a positive organizational culture.
- Risk Management: Ensure compliance with Safe Sport requirements, applicable legislation, insurance obligations, and organizational risk management practices.
- Discipline Administration: Administers and coordinates disciplinary processes in accordance with established Rules and Regulations while supporting the appropriate volunteer committees and decision-makers.
- Marketing: Develop and implement marketing efforts to grow participation in the game of soccer for adults of all ages and skill levels.
- Community Representation: Serve as the public face of the organization.
Qualifications
- Minimum five years of progressive leadership experience. Experience in non-profit management, sport administration, recreation, special event operations, or community‑based organizations is an asset.
- Experience working with a volunteer Boards of Directors.
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, sponsorship, and grant management.
- Comfortable in a highly computerized environment.
- Knowledge of the structure of soccer from FIFA to local Associations is an asset.
- Exceptional communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Experience working with diverse cultural communities and volunteers.
- Ability to manage complex projects with competing priorities.
- Experience using various computer applications, including MS 365 and Google apps.
- Post‑secondary education in a relevant field is an asset.
- Experience in project management is an asset.
Pay: $80,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
