Roles and Responsibilities
This is a full-time seasonal contract position located in a remote camp facility. The standard shift for this role consists of 28 days on duty followed by 14 days off duty, with 10-hour workdays resulting in 70-hour workweeks. Hours and pay are managed under a Work Averaging Permit. Transportation to the site is arranged via flight.
The Pad Builder works under the supervision of the foreman in the site preparation, construction, and deconstruction of drill pads and other structures. Helps clear sites of trees and vegetation. Manually digs sumps and stacks lumber.
- Heavy manual labour, incl; shoveling, lifting/carrying loads over 50lbs
- Flying to and from sites in a helicopter
- Working outside for 10 hours in extreme weather conditions
- Learning how to construct timber framed platforms on changing terrain.
- Participating in safety training, completing daily hazard assessments and timecards
- Operation of hand tools including hammers, drills, rock saws, jackhammers, etc.
- Assist with rigging lumber and equipment, while sending and receiving external helicopter loads
- Hiking more than one kilometer through the bush to sites in mountainous terrain carrying a 30lb pack
It is expected that the position will require:
- Physically fitness
- Able to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
- Able to be away from home for 3-4 weeks. Communication can be intermittent.
- Capable of sharing a wood-floored tent with three others and have reasonable personal hygiene
standards.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Enrolled in a Construction / Carpentry related program
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 and Transportation endorsement
Valid Driver’s License
Preferred Skills
- 1-2 years experience in construction environment
- Experience in the mineral exploration industry an asset
