Respite Caregiver (Temporary – August, with Potential for Ongoing Work)
Location: Kamloops, BC
Pay: $250 per 24-hour shift (48 hours/week) + negotiable hourly rate for additional daytime support
Position Overview
We are looking for a compassionate, reliable, and experienced respite caregiver to provide in-home support for a 14-year-old girl with complex support needs.
This is a temporary position for the month of August, covering two 24-hour respite shifts per week while our regular caregiver is away. There is strong potential for the position to continue beyond August, either with ongoing overnight respite shifts, daytime support hours, or a combination of both.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building meaningful relationships and supporting youth using trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approaches.

Responsibilities
- Provide supervision and care during two 24-hour respite shifts each week
- Support emotional regulation using trauma-informed, low-demand approaches
- Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive home environment
- Engage in activities based on her interests
- Assist with meals, routines, and daily living tasks
- Communicate with the primary caregiver regarding important updates or concerns
Ideal Candidate
- Experience supporting youth with autism, FASD, ADHD, trauma, anxiety, or similar support needs
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and/or PDA-informed approaches is an asset
- Calm, patient, and able to remain regulated during challenging situations
- Strong interpersonal skills with compassionate, consistent boundaries
- Comfortable working independently in a home environment
- Valid driver's licence and reliable vehicle
- Criminal Record Check required
- First Aid/CPR certification, or willingness to obtain
Schedule
- Temporary: Two 24-hour shifts per week throughout August (days are flexible)
- Potential Ongoing: Additional daytime support hours and/or continued overnight respite shifts after August, depending on availability and fit
Compensation
- $250 per 24-hour respite shift
- Additional support hours paid at a negotiable hourly rate based on experience
Pay: $250.00 per day
