Parkland Regional Library supports 53 public library branches across east-central Saskatchewan.
From our headquarters in Yorkton, we provide shared services including technology support, collections management, administration, and programming assistance to communities throughout the region.
About the Role
This is a hands-on, generalist IT role supporting a wide range of systems across a geographically distributed network. Operating primarily from our Yorkton headquarters with travel to regional branches, you will maintain hardware, resolve technical issues, and help drive future technology upgrades.
Parkland Regional Library is undergoing an exciting period of transition and renewal, including major headquarters renovations. This is a unique opportunity to help build our IT operations from the ground up. Success in this role requires flexibility, a sense of adventure (and humour!), and a highly collaborative spirit.
Reporting to the Director or Technical Services Manager, you will work closely with external partners, vendors, and provincial network administrators to keep our region connected.
Key Responsibilities
System Administration:
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows computers, networking equipment (TCP/IP), and software at headquarters and 53 branches.
- Administer regional email, public-access platforms, and system security protocols (including password management via Passportal, endpoint detection via SentinelOne EDR, and regional backups via Cove Data Protection).
Staff Support & Training: Provide technical troubleshooting and training for library staff, with a focus on building confidence and supporting users in a positive, approachable way.
Asset Management & Planning: Manage hardware inventory, procurement, and warranties, while assisting management with IT budgeting and lifecycle planning.
Field Operations: Travel to regional branch libraries to deploy systems, support public-access computers, and resolve hands-on technical issues.
Required Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in IT/Computer Science or equivalent practical experience, with a working knowledge of Windows environments and basic networking concepts.
- Demonstrated experience in an IT support or technical services role.
- Excellent communication skills, specifically the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical users.
- The ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and creatively solve problems.
- Valid driver’s license with a clear driving record, and the ability to lift 35 lbs (15.87 kg).
- A clear Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Preferred Assets
- Experience deploying and troubleshooting Dell enterprise hardware (e.g. Micro desktops, Latitude laptops).
- Experience with public computer lab management and reboot-to-restore software (e.g.Faronics Deep Freeze).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace administration, and remote technical support/RMM tools (experience with N-able N-sight is a strong asset).
- Experience supporting public computing environments or multi-site/distributed technology systems.
- Previous experience in a library, municipal, or public-sector environment.
- Experience with similar tools or environments will be considered an asset - we’re librarians, but even we know unicorns don’t exist!
