Position Description
YWCA St. John’s offers a variety of employment programs, providing opportunities for participants to gain skills and knowledge through workshops in career exploration, employment skills development, and personal skills development. Participants are supported to work towards employment through individualized mentorship, career and personal development, work experience, and peer support.
The ReLaunch program includes a full-time group-based employability skills component, followed by a paid work placement to support participants in reaching their career goals. ReLaunch is a 20-week empowerment-focused program for women and gender-diverse folks who are 30+, unemployed or underemployed, and are experiencing multiple barriers to employment, such as caretaking, immigration, gender-based violence, educational setbacks, housing, past trauma and poverty. This position will work with a team that delivers 4 cohorts per year, in addition to ongoing peer and individual support services.
Key Objectives/Primary Duties
The ReLaunch Employment Program Coordinators are responsible for:
● Reviewing and updating YWCA program curriculum in line with emerging trends, rooted in gender-equity, anti-oppression, anti-racism, and trauma-informed approaches.
● Working collaboratively with the ReLaunch team to recruit and select program participants, facilitate pre-employability and employability skills workshops, and provide support to participants both individually and through drop-in peer support sessions.
● Creating safer group spaces for diverse participants to connect, reflect, and explore career development within healthy learning environments.
● Supporting ReLaunch participants to build increased connections through community engagement, referrals, and systems navigation.
● Utilizing trauma-informed principles to support participants in personal and employment journeys, including referrals and systems navigation to collaboratively reduce barriers to employment.
● Developing and maintaining positive partnerships with existing and potential employers.
● Initiating and supporting appropriate work placements with employers and participants through on-boarding, placement visits, regular communication, and collaborative problem solving.
● Facilitating participant connection through ongoing peer support meetings.
● Providing updates on programs, assisting with reports to funders, completing ongoing documentation and file management, and responding to partner and public inquiries regarding programs.
● This is a participant-centered position that requires the ability to fulfil the role through both in-office and community-based supports, to understand social justice principles and justice doing in action; to develop strong relationships with respect for client-centered boundaries, solidarity, and care. This requires a willingness to participate in self-reflection towards solidarity work as part of YWCA team.
Employment, Education, and Skills

● Completion of an undergraduate degree or diploma in a related field (such as career development, social work, education, human resources) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
● Knowledge of and experience applying a gender equity lens, anti-racist and anti-oppressive principles, as well as an understanding of trauma-informed practice.
● Demonstrated ability to provide individual support to participants with barriers to employment, including mental health, housing, and Gender Based Violence.
● Experience providing case management and employment support. Demonstrated ability to navigate systems, as well as community supports and services.
● Ability to build positive relationships with participants and community partners
● Extensive experience in group facilitation and curriculum development, with a focus on career development.
● Knowledge of labour market trends, job development techniques, and employment support strategies.
●Understanding of program coordination, planning, and evaluation in an outcome-based framework.
Characteristics & Other Requirements
● Current RNC Code of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check are required.
● Willingness to participate in self-reflective solidarity work as part of YWCA team.
● Ability to be self-directed, take initiative, demonstrate flexibility and accountability.
● Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
● Exemplary communication (oral and written), and a strong level of digital literacy.
● Proven leadership, organizational, administrative, writing and problem-solving skills.
