Posiiton Highlights:
We currently have an opportunity for an experienced and self-driven Data Scientist II to join the Enhanced Accident Benefits Reserving team within our Corporate Actuarial department. This role is ideal for someone who not only excels in technical execution but also thrives in leading projects and mentoring others.
As a Data Scientist II, you will:
Build strong, strategic partnerships within Corporate Acturial, Claims Operations, Finance, and other specific business areas by deeply understanding how to leverage our predictive reserving models for their needs, communicating complex ideas clearly, facilitating collaborative workshops, and becoming a trusted advisor who identifies and drives future predictive reserving analytics opportunities.
Lead end-to-end data science projects—from idea inception and partner engagement to technical design, development, evaluation, and deployment—demonstrating initiative, ownership, and the ability to drive results independently.
Coach and mentor junior team members, fostering technical growth, collaboration, and adherence to best practices.
Design and deliver high-quality, peer-reviewed, and reproducible data products that integrate seamlessly into business processes.
Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to gain buy-in from partners.
Contribute to the team’s continuous improvement efforts and strategic direction.
Data products may range from research insights that influence claims strategy to deployed predictive models that optimize reserving decisions.
Position Requirements:
Through years of relevant experience, you have demonstrated leadership and creativity in defining and tackling complex problems using a wide array of methods and approaches.
You are known for being a team player, and your excellent analytical and critical thinking skills are complemented by strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
You hold a Master’s or PhD in a relevant field such as computer science, engineering, or statistics, along with substantial professional experience in data science.
Strong knowledge of data extraction, exploration and tools such as Python, Spark and SQL is also required.
Position Information:
The Corporate Actuarial department has responsibility for the estimation of ICBC’s claims reserves, determining future claims trends, financial reporting, and capital adequacy testing to determine ICBC’s internal capital management MCT targets.

Work arrangements defined:
Resident – you will work at your primary in-office headquarters on all scheduled work days.
Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
Hybrid 10 – you will work a minimum of 10 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically one week in/one week out or up to 3 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
Mobile – you will work a significant amount of time in the field, in addition to working from an office and optionally working remotely within British Columbia.
Remote – you will work remotely from within British Columbia, with one required visit to your primary office per month.
