FINANCIAL CONTROLLER
Summit has an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated team leader to work as a Financial Controller in our Acheson office. Reporting to the President, this senior leadership position oversees the accounting functions of multiple operating branches serving the transportation resource industries. This key full cycle role provides daily leadership to a team of three direct reports.
Responsibilities:
- Posting of journal entries and trial balance preparation
- Prepare monthly financial statements
- Reconcile, report and remit information to all external statutory bodies
- Year-end audit
- Annual budget preparation
- Oversee daily bank reconciliation and reporting
- Oversee payroll & benefit administration
- Ad-hoc reporting and analysis
- Direction of head office accounting staff
Qualifications:
- CPA Designation
- 3-5 years of accounting experience within a multi branch environment
- Full cycle accounting & GAAP knowledge
- Strong understanding of yearly budgeting processes
- Prior transportation dealership experience an asset
- Experience with payroll & benefits
- Experience supervising a small team
- Shows leadership skills including mentoring, coach and training staff
- Ability to assess and recommend efficiencies to current processes
- High attention to details and accuracy
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Self-directed and shows initiative
Other considerations:
- Regular hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm but flexible
- Ability to work extra time when needed, typically around year end (May-June)
- Ability to travel to branch locations
