About BA Blacktop
BA Blacktop is a leading heavy civil construction contractor specializing in road construction, asphalt paving, underground utilities, earthworks, site development, and municipal infrastructure projects throughout British Columbia.
We are seeking an experienced Estimator, Heavy Civil Construction to join our North Vancouver team. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing competitive and accurate estimates for a diverse portfolio of heavy civil and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Prepare accurate quantity take-offs and detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects.
- Develop pricing for labour, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Analyze construction methodologies and identify cost-effective solutions.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and tender reviews.
- Collaborate with operations, project management, and procurement teams throughout the bidding process.
- Support the preparation and submission of competitive tender packages.
- Maintain estimating databases, historical costing information, and industry relationships.
- Mentor and support junior estimators and team members as required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of estimating experience within the heavy civil construction industry.
- Proven experience estimating projects involving:
- Road construction
- Asphalt paving
- Earthworks and grading
- Underground utilities
- Municipal infrastructure
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and tendering processes.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- Experience with B2W, HCSS HeavyBid, Autodesk Takeoff, or similar estimating software.
- Gold Seal Certification (Estimating) is considered an asset.
- Project management experience is considered an asset.
