Journeyperson Metal Fabricator / Shipfitter – Shipbuilding Project
Location: North Vancouver, BC
Pay: $59.29 per hour
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
Employment Type: Full-time project assignment
Start Date: As soon as available, with upcoming project intakes
Project Duration: Through October 2026, with possible extension
Matrix HR is recruiting certified Journeyperson Metal Fabricators and experienced Shipfitters for a high-profile shipbuilding project in North Vancouver, British Columbia.
This role focuses on the layout, fitting, alignment and assembly of structural components used in vessel construction.
Compensation and Travel Support
- $59.29 per hour
- Double-time overtime where applicable

- Daily meal allowance paid seven days per week:
- Month 1: $107.35 per day
- Month 2: $85.07 per day
- Month 3 and beyond: $56.76 per day
Responsibilities
- Interpret blueprints, ship drawings, fabrication plans and welding symbols
- Lay out, cut, fit and assemble steel plates, beams and structural components
- Use torches, grinders, plasma cutters and other fabrication tools
- Tack weld components in preparation for final welding
- Align hull sections and structural assemblies using jacks, wedges, chain falls and rigging equipment
- Measure and inspect assemblies for accuracy, gaps and fit-up
- Correct alignment and fabrication issues before final welding
- Follow shipyard safety, quality and production standards
Requirements
- Valid Journeyperson or Red Seal Metal Fabricator certification
- Shipfitting, structural fitting or heavy steel fabrication experience
- Strong blueprint-reading and layout skills
- Experience with fitting, cutting, measuring and alignment tools
- Eligible to work in Canada
- Ability to complete Reliability Status and Controlled Goods screening
- Ability to meet shipyard safety and physical requirements
A Red Seal Welder certificate alone does not meet the trade-certification requirement.
Referral Bonus
Matrix HR offers a $400 referral bonus to anyone who refers a certified Journeyperson Metal Fabricator or qualified Shipfitter who is hired and completes at least 40 hours of work.
The referral bonus is paid to the referring individual and is not part of the candidate’s compensation. There is no limit on eligible referrals.
