About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a woman in her senior years living in the Victoria Park and Eglinton area of Toronto. She is experiencing physical decline and now uses a walker for mobility. She lives with mild paranoia and faces significant challenges with hoarding in her home. Most importantly, she values her autonomy and independence, and any support must be provided at her pace with dignity and respect at the forefront.
Responsibilities:
This role focuses primarily on building a trusting relationship and providing consistent, kind companionship. You'll visit once per week for 3 hours to establish predictability and routine. Your presence should help her feel supported rather than overwhelmed. Light assistance with household tasks like clearing surfaces, doing dishes, or laundry may be offered as she feels comfortable, but the goal is encouragement rather than taking over. You'll help assess her needs over time and coordinate with family regarding any additional support required. Accompanying her to appointments and providing gentle motivation for daily activities will be part of your role as trust develops.
What We're Looking For:
We need someone with exceptional patience, empathy, and understanding of mental health challenges. Experience with hoarding situations is valuable, as is the ability to work without judgment. You must be comfortable moving slowly and respecting boundaries while gently encouraging progress. Strong communication skills are essential for coordinating with family. Mobility assistance experience with walkers is required. You should be calm, reliable, and able to bring positive energy while respecting her independence. English-speaking is necessary. This is not a typical caregiving role—it requires someone who can build trust gradually and understand that relationship-building is the primary objective.
Schedule:
One visit per week, 3 hours per visit, on a consistent day and time to be determined based on the client's preference. Flexibility during the initial assessment period is appreciated as we establish the best routine.
