Job Duties
The General Manager – National Restaurant Operations will oversee the operations of the MSSM Group’s restaurants across Canada and serve as a key member of the executive management team as the company continues its expansion.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Establish strategic objectives for each restaurant together with the executive management team.
- Develop, implement, and oversee company policies, operational standards, and procedures across all restaurant locations.
- Allocate human, financial, and material resources to support business operations, including procurement, inventory control, food cost management, supplier relationships, and budgeting.
- Oversee restaurant profitability and identify opportunities to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.
- Develop and approve marketing initiatives, promotional campaigns, and brand strategies.
- Lead recruitment, hiring, training, and performance management for restaurant leadership and operational staff, including managers, chefs, and front-of-house teams.
- Ensure consistent food quality, guest experience, and operational excellence across all locations.
- Represent the company during negotiations, partnerships, media appearances, and other official business functions.
- Lead operational planning and execution for future restaurant openings across Canada.
- Develop scalable operating procedures and systems to support business growth, including implementation of ERP and operational management software.
- Collaborate with culinary leadership on menu development, pricing strategies, seasonal offerings, and consumer trend analysis.
- Demonstrate and maintain knowledge of authentic Japanese cuisine, including Edomae sushi preparation techniques and premium ingredient standards.
- Support leadership development and create a high-performance organizational culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Company.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Restaurant General Manager or in a senior hospitality leadership role.
- Strong leadership and team development skills.
- Excellent customer service mindset and passion for hospitality.
- Thorough knowledge of food safety regulations and operational best practices.
- Experience using POS systems, inventory management software, and restaurant management platforms.
- Strong financial management, budgeting, and analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and decision-making abilities.
Education
- Completion of secondary school is required.
- Post-secondary education in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Culinary Arts, or a related field is considered an asset.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of senior management experience in the restaurant or hospitality industry.
- Extensive experience managing multi-unit restaurant operations is considered an asset.
- Experience with Japanese cuisine, particularly premium sushi or omakase concepts, is preferred.
- Strong understanding of restaurant financial management, labour cost control, food cost control, and inventory management.
- Experience recruiting, training, and developing high-performing restaurant teams.
- Ability to identify operational challenges and implement practical solutions.
- Experience opening new restaurant locations is considered an asset.
- Strong communication and leadership skills when working with internal teams, external partners, vendors, and the public.
- Knowledge of current hospitality industry trends and best practices.
Language
- English is required.
- Japanese language proficiency is considered a strong asset and will be given preference.
Additional Information
- Travel is required within Canada and occasionally internationally.
- This position requires flexibility in working hours based on business needs.
