ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re hiring a Skilled Labourer to support our construction and renovation projects across the Greater Hamilton Area.
This is a hands-on role for someone with solid general construction experience who takes pride in their work and shows up reliably. You don’t need to be a licensed electrician, plumber, or specialised trade — you need to understand general construction, be comfortable on active job sites, have your own basic tools, and be ready to jump in where needed.
Our project volume is growing, and we need another strong person in the field who can support the team, reduce strain on current crew members, and help keep jobs moving cleanly.
HOW WE OPERATE
Gateway Group works on renovations, conversions, ADUs, multi-unit residential projects, and other construction projects across Southern Ontario. We operate lean, fast, and hands-on. No task is below anyone.
Our team values people who are reliable, practical, respectful, and willing to solve problems instead of creating them. You’ll work closely with the Construction Manager, site team, trades, and project support team to ensure work is completed safely, properly, and efficiently.
WHAT YOU'RE RESPONSIBLE FOR
1. General Construction Support
You’ll help with a variety of construction tasks, including:
- Framing and drywall support
- Demo, cleanup, and site preparation
- Material handling
- Basic finishing and general repair work
- Supporting trades and senior team members as needed
You should be comfortable moving between tasks based on what the project requires.
2. Keep Job Sites Moving
You’re expected to help keep projects organised and progressing:
- Show up on time and ready to work
- Follow direction from the Construction Manager or site lead
- Complete assigned tasks properly and ask questions when something is unclear
- Communicate issues early
- Help keep the site clean, safe, and organised
We need someone who can be trusted to get things done without constant supervision.
3. Bring the Right Tools and Mindset
You must have your own basic tools and a good understanding of how to use them. You don’t need to know everything — we’re willing to teach the right person — but you need a solid foundation, good energy, and a willingness to learn.
4. Work Safely and Professionally
- Follow job site safety expectations
- Use tools and materials properly
- Respect clients’ homes and properties
- Work well with other crew members and trades
- Represent Gateway professionally on site
5. Support Quality Work
We’re not looking for someone who cuts corners. We need someone who takes pride in doing the job right, pays attention to details, notices problems and speaks up, and understands that poor work creates issues for the whole team.
WHO THIS IS A FIT FOR
This role is a fit for someone who:
- Has general construction experience (residential renovations, framing, drywall, finish work, demo, or small crew environments)
- Owns basic tools and has reliable transportation
- Is dependable, shows up when expected, and has a strong work ethic
- Can take direction, follow through, and work well with others
- Is willing to learn and improve
- Can handle physical work with a positive attitude and good energy
WHO THIS IS NOT A FIT FOR
This won’t work if you:
- Don’t have reliable transportation or your own basic tools
- Need constant supervision or avoid hard work
- Show up late, miss work often, or create drama on job sites
- Ignore safety expectations or cut corners
- Aren’t comfortable working on different types of construction tasks
IMPORTANT CLARITY
You’re not being hired as a licensed trade or construction manager. You may work independently on assigned tasks, but you are not being hired to run projects on your own. You’re being hired as a reliable, well-rounded skilled labourer who can support active projects, help the team execute, and grow with the company.
