Job Description
We are seeking a results-driven Controller to join our finance team. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role will oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable while leading the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization. This position is well-suited for an experienced Controller or a Senior Accountant ready to take the next step into a leadership role. The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in inventory and cost accounting, along with hands-on experience in month-end close and financial reporting, and proven experience leading and developing a small accounting team. Advanced proficiency in Excel is required, and experience with Salesforce and cross-border (Canada–US) transactions is considered an asset.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and provide leadership to the small Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, providing guidance and training, and ensuring accurate and timely processing of payables and receivables
- Assist with general accounting duties, including account reconciliations, journal entry preparation and posting, and performing back-up support for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable as needed
- Oversee and perform month-end closing procedures, including balance sheet reconciliations
- Maintain continuity schedules, including the fixed asset ledger
- Prepare government remittances, including sales tax
- Perform regular inventory cost analysis, including the investigation of variances, costing, labour, and overhead
- Assist in the coordination of inventory counts
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and relevant standards in all supervised areas
- Other related accounting duties as required
Qualifications
- Proven experience supervising a small team (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, or similar finance/accounting functions preferred)
- Experience in a manufacturing environment with inventory
- Minimum 2 years of full-cycle accounting experience
- Experience with intercompany transactions
- Advanced Excel proficiency
- Solid understanding of ASPE
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to provide direction, guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback to junior staff and team members
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Job type and hours
Full-time position on-site at our Surrey office. Standard hours are 7am to 330pm, with flexibility as needed.
