BJ Bobcat & Trucking Ltd. is hiring a skilled Excavator Operator to operate heavy equipment, primarily excavators, for projects across Red Deer and Central Alberta. The role involves tasks such as digging, grading, and site prep for foundations for residential foundations, with an emphasis on precision and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely and efficiently operate excavator for excavation, trenching, grading, and material loading.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and maintenance (e.g., fueling, greasing, track cleaning) to ensure optimal performance.
- Interpret site plans, grade stakes, and blueprints to achieve accurate excavation results.
- Collaborate with site supervisors, truck drivers, and ground crew to meet project deadlines and safety standards.
- Adhere to BJ Bobcat & Trucking Ltd.’s safety policies, including attending safety meetings and complying with drug and alcohol testing.
- Maintain detailed records of equipment usage and project activities.
- Assist with other tasks as needed, such as operating skid steers, or supporting trucking operations.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience operating excavators in construction, landscaping, or earthworks projects in residential construction.
- Valid Class 5 NON-GDL Driver’s License with a clean abstract (Class 3 or 1 with air brake endorsement is a plus).
- Proficiency in operating track in varied conditions (e.g., confined spaces, uneven terrain).
- Current safety certifications, including CSTS-09, Ground Disturbance Level II, and Standard First Aid (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong knowledge of equipment maintenance and workplace safety protocols.
- Team-oriented with excellent communication skills.
- Physically capable of working in all weather conditions and handling long shifts (up to 12 hours).
- Based in or able to commute to Red Deer (home every night).
- Most weekends and long weekends off pending work load.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with residential site prep, sewer and water tie-ins.
- Strong knowledge of interpreting blue prints and site plans.
- Ability to operate additional equipment (e.g. skid steers, loaders).
- Read and speak fluent English.
