Human Resources is hiring for a temporary Administrative Assistant, Human Resources and Labour Relations. This is a one-year contract, with possibility of extension.
The Administrative Assistant, Human Resources (HR) and Labor Relations (LR) provides general, confidential administrative support to the HR Directors Group, coordinates support activities for the labour relations functions and supports work on a variety of other departmental activities.
The incumbent works with the Director, Advisory Services and Labour Relations (DASLR) and the Senior Human Resources Advisor team to coordinate grievance meetings, conduct research, assist in drafting grievance responses, and coordinate labour relations related meetings and investigations. The incumbent creates and maintains confidential labour relations files related to workplace issues, grievances, arbitrations, bargaining and a variety of other workplace matters.
The incumbent provides administrative support for the HR leadership team, coordinates events, and provides backup support to other areas of the Department, including the Operations Manager, as required.
- Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution, preferably related to Human Resources, including courses in Labour Relations.
- Three (3) years of related work experience, preferably in a post-secondary institution environment or similar complex public sector organization.
- Labour relations experience is an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, research tools.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters with discretion, tact, and diplomacy and make sound decisions within the limits of established policies and procedures.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships in a team environment at all times.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt to ever changing workload priorities and effectively reprioritize or defer tasks in line with operational needs.
- Self-motivated and self-directed with strong communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision and take initiative.
