Job Summary:
St. Charles Village, an independent retirement community, is looking for a skilled Part-time Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food preparation and food handling. As a Part-time Chef within our culinary team, you will oversee all kitchen operations to ensure high-quality, nutritious and delicious homemade meals are offered to our residents.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and the ability to deliver exceptional meals while working independently with the support of the serving staff.
Job Duties – candidate must have experience in the following:
- Hands on working experience as a Chef including cooking and preparing of meals;
- Control portioning of food items to ensure recipe yield meets quantity expectations
- Ensures cleaning and maintenance schedules in conjunction with manufacturer instructions for all equipment;
- Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed and informs the Dietary Manager of items required
- Collaborate with management/residents to develop new recipes and menu items;
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen;
- Ensure that all dishes are prepared and presented in accordance with established recipes and quality standards;
- Ensure consistency and high-quality presentation of food preparation including cooking and plating;
- Manage kitchen operations during service hours, ensuring smooth workflow and timely delivery of meals;
- Strong knowledge of food handling, preparation techniques, and kitchen equipment operation
Qualifications:
- Culinary degree from a recognized Institute of Culinary Arts or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Minimum 3 years of progressive culinary experience including creating dishes from scratch;
- Proven experience as a Chef working on their own
- Knowledge of federal, provincial, city and occupational health and safety requirements
- Goal and service oriented
- Very strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of guests, employees, and management
- Must have experience and be proficient in production cooking
- Must be innovative, detail oriented and quality conscious
- Current Safe Food Handling certification
- Ability to bend, lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and be mobile for an excess of 8 hours
- Valid Driver’s license and own method of transportation a must
