The Pederson Group has been retained to conduct a search for a Project Manager.
Our client is a Winnipeg-based heavy civil construction company specializing in surface, underground and utility infrastructure.
Reporting to the Division Manager, the Project Manager will be responsible for supporting estimating activities, pre-project planning and overall project coordination. This role includes completing assigned tenders, managing project start-up activities and working closely with the Site Supervisor to monitor project progress. This position operates within the Surface Division.
Responsibilities
Estimating:
- Monitor and evaluate available tenders in collaboration with the Division Manager and Director of Operations
- Prepare and manage tenders using B2W Estimate
- Complete quantity take-offs
- Coordinate with internal teams to support project setup, tracking and reporting
- Monitor budgets, costs and cash flow to meet financial targets
- Analyze project risks, including schedule, materials and contractual requirements
- Gather pricing from suppliers and subcontractors
- Coordinate bid bonds and surety requirements
- Finalize project costing, including resources, cash flow and risk
- Participate in tender reviews to determine margins based on market conditions and workload
Pre-Construction:
- Review drawings, specifications and tender documents to confirm scope, schedule, and budget
- Complete Project Information Sheets (PIS) to establish key project details and setup
- Transfer estimating data into project tracking systems (B2W Track, Spectrum)
- Develop project schedules and establish measurable milestones
- Submit required project documentation (bonds, insurance, methodologies) to owners and contract admins
- Coordinate procurement of materials, equipment, and resources
- Ensure all safety requirements are in place, including Safe Work Plans
- Organize and lead internal and external pre-construction meetings
- Ensure all required utility locates and clearances are completed prior to construction
- Complete site reviews and document pre-construction conditions
Project Delivery:
- Collaborate with Site Supervisors to ensure work meets specifications, schedule and is on budget
- Approve timesheets and oversee field reporting through B2W Track
- Manage project changes, including documentation of extra work
- Complete immediate progress invoicing as per the requirements of the contract
- Monitor project progress against Cost Budget and Construction Schedule to ensure the project is on schedule and on budget
- Participate in regular project meetings, including weekly schedule reviews and internal coordination meetings
- Ensure accurate measurement of unit pay items for payment progress
- Review and approve invoices, ensuring accuracy of materials and subcontractor billing
- Prepare and submit progress billings and monthly project estimates
Safety:
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all projects
- Conduct site inspections and support toolbox meetings
- Complete required safety documentation, including Daily Work Permits, hazard assessments, Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs), and SiteDocs reporting
- Assist with incident reporting and corrective actions as required
Collaboration & Project Closeout:
- Liaise with Site Supervisors, inspectors and stakeholders to address project needs, concerns and deficiencies
- Support resource sharing across projects to maximize efficiency
- Lead project closeout, including final billing, deficiency resolution and post-project reviews
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a related field
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
- Ability to manage multiple projects at a time
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract and ability to travel as required for projects
- Intermediate computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Project, Word)
- Successful completion of a criminal background check is required for this position
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $125,000.00-$150,000.00 per year
