Maintenance Technician
Atlantic Braids Ltd. is seeking a reliable, safety-focused Maintenance Technician to join our manufacturing team. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving manufacturing equipment and facility systems to minimize downtime and ensure safe, efficient production.
The successful candidate will perform preventative maintenance, respond to equipment breakdowns, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and work collaboratively with production teams to maintain a high standard of operational excellence.

Primary Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and scheduled maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment issues.
- Repair machinery safely and efficiently to minimize production downtime.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergency maintenance requests.
- Install, assemble, and commission new machinery and equipment.
- Perform routine inspections of production equipment and building systems.
- Maintain compressors, pumps, motors, conveyors, gearboxes, and other production equipment.
- Lubricate machinery and replace worn or damaged components.
- Assist with machine changeovers and production line improvements.
- Perform welding, fabrication, and basic machining as required.
- Complete maintenance work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Recommend improvements to equipment reliability and manufacturing processes.
- Ensure all guarding and safety devices remain functional and compliant.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve productivity, safety, and equipment reliability.
- Assist with inventory control of maintenance parts and supplies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance shop.
- Participate in after-hours emergency maintenance when required.
- Work collaboratively with Production, Quality, Shipping, and Management teams.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Follow all Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requirements.
- Comply with Atlantic Braids' Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before servicing equipment.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Report unsafe conditions, hazards, near misses, and incidents immediately.
- Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and training.
- Ensure repairs meet all safety and manufacturer specifications.
- Support a safe working environment for all employees.
Quality Responsibilities
As an ISO-certified manufacturer, all employees are responsible for maintaining quality standards.
Responsibilities include:
- Follow documented ISO procedures and work instructions.
- Complete maintenance work according to company quality standards.
- Support production by ensuring equipment operates within required tolerances.
- Report recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Previous industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) certification considered an asset.
- Industrial Electrician experience considered an asset.
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical equipment.
- Basic electrical troubleshooting skills preferred.
- Welding and fabrication experience considered an asset.
- Experience using power tools and hand tools safely.
- Ability to read equipment manuals, drawings, and maintenance documentation.
- Basic computer skills for maintenance records and work orders.
- Forklift and aerial lift certification considered an asset.
- Valid driver's licence preferred.

Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and climb.
- Work at heights using ladders or lifts when required.
- Perform repetitive manual tasks.
- Use hand and power tools safely.
- Work in varying temperatures within a manufacturing facility.
- Distinguish colours, gauges, and equipment indicators.
- Wear required PPE, including hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and safety footwear.

Working Conditions
- Manufacturing environment with moving machinery.
- Exposure to noise, dust, vibration, and varying temperatures.
- Overtime and weekend work may be required during equipment breakdowns or scheduled shutdowns.
