Job Overview
The Vancouver Island Crisis Society is seeking a Part Time Crisis Line Responder to provide compassionate, nonjudgmental support to individuals experiencing emotional distress, mental health concerns, or crisis situations. Support is provided through phone and SMS communication.
This position may be worked on site in Nanaimo or remotely from within Vancouver Island.
Duties
- Respond to individuals experiencing crisis and provide emotional support through active listening.
- Assess safety and risk and take appropriate action when concerns are identified.
- Connect individuals with appropriate community, mental health, substance use, or emergency resources.
- Maintain accurate documentation and confidentiality.
- Follow established crisis response procedures and work collaboratively with supervisors and team members.
Qualifications
Strong communication skills, empathy, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations are essential.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience in mental health, social services, crisis intervention, health care, community services, or a related helping profession is preferred. Related post secondary education and crisis intervention training are assets.
Successful candidates must complete a police information check, including vulnerable sector screening.
Remote employees must reside on Vancouver Island and meet VICS privacy, technology, and internet requirements.

Pay: $24.00-$29.00 per hour
