Job Summary
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Human Resources Specialist is a member of the Leadership Team and is responsible for the delivery of effective, customer focused Human Resource programs and services.
Responsibilities and Duties

Support and promote the Centre’s Mission, Vision, and Values. Is a role model and mentor of Person-Centered Care, Residents Rights and the Code of Ethics.

Ensures HR practice is in compliance with all collective agreements, legislation (Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Labour Relations Code), licensing requirements and any requirements for external reporting.

Ensures that HR services are provided in compliance with all collective agreements, legislation, licensing including any requirement for external reporting.

Manages HR programs including recruitment, labour relations, claims management, training and development, and job evaluation.
Employee Relations

Leads the employee relations function of the facility and provides consultation advice and administrative direction to directors, managers and employees on HR matters.

Coordinate annual recognition events for staff.

Promote staff health, safety, well-being and work-life balance by participating and supporting wellness initiatives.

Participates in ensuring the safety of our residents by reporting observations related to unsafe circumstances for a resident to the appropriate care staff.
Labour Relations

Provide advice and guidance to management and staff regarding the interpretation and administration of collective agreements.

Liaise effectively with union shop stewards and employees for effective negotiation and resolution of disputes. Coordinate all documentation and correspondence relating thereto.

Attend Labour/Management meetings. Maintain records of all current and resolved grievances.

Support members of the leadership team in handling grievance meetings
Retention

Maintaining the performance management process. Participate in probationary and regular performance reviews for staff, as assigned.

Maintain an effective Attendance Management Program and support Directors and Managers with accurate information.
Disability Management
-
Maintain the disability management procedures and processes in consultation with EDMP, WorkSafe BC, and Canada Life.

Follow safe work procedures and act safely in the workplace at all times.

Investigate and follow up on all reported safety concerns.

Ensure the health and safety of all workers under your direct supervision.

Report all injuries to WorkSafeBC that required medical attention. Submit any necessary forms.

Actively support any workers that are on a GRTW program.
Administration
-
Maintain all HR and employee files and records.

Manage the HR database, including data entry and generating required reports to support organizational requirements.
CREDENTIALS
-
Certificate or Diploma in Human Resources Management from an approved School of Technology or University College.

Chartered Professional in Human Resources designation considered an asset.

Minimum one-year Human Resource experience, including labour relations and recruitment.
