Shipping/ Receiving Team Lead – Job Description
Summary
The Shipping/Receiving Team Lead is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the warehouse by coordinating workflow, assigning tasks, and providing guidance to warehouse associates. This role ensures shipping, receiving, inventory, and storage activities are completed safely, accurately, and efficiently while maintaining company, food safety, and health & safety standards.
The Shipping/Receiving Team Lead leads by example, supports employee development, and works closely with the Warehouse Manager to achieve operational goals and maintain a productive work environment.
Hours of work: Monday to Friday, from 5am to 2:30am with overtime as required
Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily warehouse operations to ensure productivity, accuracy, and service objectives are achieved.
- Assign and prioritize work tasks based on operational requirements and workload demands.
- Monitor workflow throughout the shift and provide support and direction to team members as required.
- Assist with shipping, receiving, inventory control, and product storage activities to ensure operational efficiency.
- Maintain inventory accuracy through regular inventory checks, cycle counts, and stock verification activities.
- Train, coach, and support employees on company procedures, safety practices, and operational expectations.
- Conduct daily shift start-up meetings to communicate priorities, safety topics, and operational updates.
- Complete required operational reports and communicate shift activities, issues, and concerns to management.
- Promote a positive, productive, and team-oriented work environment through effective leadership and communication.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety requirements, customer standards, and health and safety regulations.
- Report and document workplace incidents, accidents, hazards, and near misses as required.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain warehouse cleanliness, organization, and housekeeping standards at all times.
- Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment and conduct pre-operational equipment inspections as required.
- Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a warehouse, logistics, or distribution environment.
- Previous experience leading, training, coaching, or mentoring employees.
- Valid Counterbalance Forklift Certification.
- Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Comfortable working in a refrigerated or cold-storage environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as required.
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example and promote a positive team environment.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety, food safety, and operational excellence.
- Experience in the food and beverage industry is considered an asset.
