About Leep
Leep is a fast‑growing music‑tech platform that helps emerging artists break through industry barriers. We empower creators to collaborate, grow their sound, and gain real exposure. “Leep merges LinkedIn‑styled connections with Patreon’s ownership – a platform born from these struggles, built to give emerging artists the tools they need. We’ve proven demand in closed beta – 117 artists, 112,000+ organic impressions, and paid sync deals. Now we have a live MVP. Our CTO brings over 15 years of technology leadership, including as former CTO of Label Engine. He's scaled music‑tech infrastructure before – and now he's building the development layer the industry never had. You'll work directly with him to ensure your designs ship fast and faithfully.
The Opportunity
As our first design hire (working directly with me, the founder, and our CTO), you will own the look, feel, and usability of Leep’s most critical surfaces. You won’t be starting from scratch. We have a functional React frontend, a Go backend, user research, and low‑fidelity wireframes from a previous capstone team. Your mission is to transform four key sections – My Music, Collaboration, Profile, and Discovery – from “utilitarian” into intuitive, delightful, and professional tools.
You will also build our design system, create an interactive prototype, conduct usability testing, and deliver a developer‑ready handoff that our CTO can implement immediately.
With a clear path to compensation as we fundraise or generate revenue. You’ll have a real voice in shaping the product and its design culture.
Key Responsibilities
1. UI Polish & Feature Enhancement
- Audit and redesign My Music – turn it into an analytics dashboard with waveform engagement visualization and remix insight tags.
- Redesign Collaboration Hub – create a simple drag‑and‑drop timeline for remix snippets (not a full DAW), with visual positioning and smart muting.
- Redesign Profile – evolve it into a professional EPK for artists to share with labels and scouts (story, future events, stats).
- Redesign Discovery – clean up scroll, add a pop‑up player, and improve card hierarchy.
2. Design System & Component Library
- Build a reusable design system (colors, typography, buttons, form elements, states).
- Document component specs, spacing, hover/active/disabled states, and accessibility.
- Ensure the system is scalable for future mobile app.
3. Cross‑functional Collaboration
- Work directly with our CTO to ensure designs are feasible and handoff is clear.
- Participate in weekly syncs with me (founder) to align on priorities and feedback.
- Translate business and user needs into high‑fidelity, developer‑ready designs.
4. User Testing & Iteration
- Recruit 3–5 target users (emerging artists, producers) from Leep’s community or personal networks.
- Conduct moderated usability tests on your interactive prototype.
- Synthesize findings into a prioritized list of fixes and update the prototype.
5. Developer Handoff & Documentation
- Prepare a clean, annotated Figma file with layers, components, and assets.
- Provide a one‑page style guide and a handoff package (specs, spacing, asset exports).
- Present final designs and test results to me and the CTO.
Must‑Have Qualifications
- 3+ years of UI/UX design experience (freelance or full‑time), with a portfolio showing polished web applications.
- Proven experience building or maintaining a design system (even a small one).
- Deep proficiency in Figma (auto‑layout, components, variables, prototyping).
- Ability to produce developer‑ready handoff files (annotations, spacing, states, assets).
- Experience conducting usability tests and iterating based on feedback.
- Strong communication skills – you can explain design rationale to both a founder and a CTO.
Nice‑to‑Have
- Experience in music‑tech, creative tools, or audio platforms.
- Familiarity with music production workflows (DAWs, stems, remixing).
- Basic understanding of React/Tailwind – helps with handoff.
- Prior startup
Personal Attributes
- Craft‑driven – You care about every pixel, state, and micro‑interaction.
- Pragmatic – You know when to polish and when to ship.
- Collaborative – You enjoy working with engineers and non‑designers.
- Proactive – You don’t wait for instructions; you bring ideas and solutions.
- User‑focused – You test your assumptions and design for real people.
Why Join Leep?
- Significant equity (0.5%–2%) and the chance to shape the product’s design DNA.
- Mission‑driven impact – Help undiscovered artists get the recognition they deserve.
- Live product, real users – Your work goes straight into production.
- Close collaboration with a passionate founder and an experienced CTO.
- Portfolio gold – A complete design system + handoff for a music‑tech platform.
- Path to compensation – We intend to convert early contributors to paid roles as we gro
