Behaviour Consultant
Elevated Abilities was founded in 2021 by a team of professionals who are passionate about helping children and adults with disabilities. Our mission is to provide comprehensive, individualized services that support the unique needs of clients and their families. We offer a range of services, including assessment, counselling, and behavior interventions, all aimed at helping individuals thrive in their daily lives.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Behaviour Consultant to support children and youth with autism, developmental disabilities, communication delays, and complex behavioural needs. This role is best suited for someone with experience in behaviour assessment, behaviour support planning, early intervention, caregiver coaching, and data-informed intervention.
The clients we support often have limited verbal communication, require hands-on developmental and behavioural programming, and may present with aggression, self-injury, property destruction, elopement, toileting challenges, feeding or daily living skill needs, and delays in play, communication, social, and adaptive skills.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with families, aides, and a multidisciplinary clinical team to develop practical, evidence-informed strategies that improve client safety, independence, communication, participation, and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessment & Planning: Conduct thorough assessments to identify behavioural challenges and create individualized treatment plans that address each client’s specific needs and goals.
- Intervention Implementation: Implement evidence-based behavioural interventions (such as ABA strategies) that promote the acquisition of new skills and the reduction of challenging or aggressive behaviours.
- Client Support: Provide ongoing support and coaching to clients, families, and caregivers, ensuring interventions are carried out consistently across various environments.
- Family Collaboration: Work closely with families to provide education, strategies, and resources that support their child’s development. Empower families with the tools they need to continue progress outside of therapy sessions.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with a team of BCBAs, Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, and other professionals to deliver integrated care that addresses the whole child.
- Progress Monitoring: Regularly evaluate and document client progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to optimize outcomes.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including assessment reports, treatment plans, and progress notes. Communicate effectively with families and team members regarding client progress and treatment adjustments.
- FSCD Programming: Operate within the FSCD (Family Support for Children with Disabilities) model to ensure high-quality services that align with regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Professional Development: Stay current with the latest research and advancements in behavioural practices, incorporating new techniques and strategies into practice.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Master’s degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis, Psychology, Education, Special Education, Disability Studies, Counselling Psychology, Social Work, or a related field is preferred.
- Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) or in pursuit of certification/licensure would be considered an asset.
- Experience with behavioural assessment, functional behaviour assessment, behaviour support planning, skill acquisition programming, caregiver coaching, data collection, and progress monitoring is strongly preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to build rapport with clients, families, and colleagues.
- Eagerness to learn, adapt, and contribute positively to a growing team.
