Position Overview: Under the direction of the Envirnomental Service Manager/designate the Housekeeping Aide ensures that the environment throughout the home is clean, safe, and comfortable and that furnishings and equipment are in good repair. The Housekeeping Aide will support and demonstrate Sharon Village Care Home’s Mission, Vision, and Values and make every effort to ensure that the provisions of the Resident’s Bill of Rights are practiced without exception.
Meets provincial governing bodies and Sharon Village Care Homes standards for providing a safe and secure environment for persons served.
Accountable to: Environmental Service Manager Executive Director/designate (in the absence of ESM)
Housekeeping Responsibilities:
Provides cleaning of resident and public areas as assigned on a daily and as necessary basis. Provides cleaning of windows, privacy curtains, spot cleaning of walls, and deep cleaning procedures. Cleans, mops, polishes floors, furniture, and equipment, and arranges furniture in an orderly manner. Assists in the stripping of floors, sealing and re-waxing Ensure garbage is disposed of from rooms and washrooms and all common areas Performs routine and special cleaning assignments. Performs deep cleaning procedures, discharge cleaning procedures, and, general and routine cleaning. Assists in receiving, checking, and storing incoming supplies as required. Advises Environmental Service Manager of need for supplies. Identifies areas requiring repairs, documents in the log record book, and reports to the Supervisor or Home area Charge Nurse. Adheres to regulations relating to labelling, storage, and safe use of chemicals. Follows Infection Control Practices within the workplace. Participates in the facility CQI program. Participates in departmental meetings.
Laundry Responsibilities:
Provides washing, drying, and folding of personal clothing. Distributes folded and hanging clothing to home areas and may be responsible for distributing to individual rooms. Is responsible for labelling resident personal clothing within 48 hours of admission/obtaining the clothing item. Provides washing, drying, and folding of home linens. Monitors linens' quality and discards frayed, thread bare, and stained items. Distributes linens to home areas according to quotas established. Participates in inventory control by conducting linen counts under direction of the Environmental Service Manager/designate Reports any unsafe conditions to the Facility Service Manager. Performs special cleaning for window coverings, privacy curtains, bed spreads, and other items that may not be completed daily. Maintains clean and dirty areas within the laundry department. Ensures Infection Control Practices are maintained. Participates in departmental meetings. Ensures equipment is clean and in good working order. Ensures chemicals and equipment are stored properly. Liaises with families of residents, and refers unresolved laundry/clothing concerns to the supervisor. Participates in the Quality Improvement/Risk Management program of the Home.
