About the role:
The Sr. Credit Analyst will be responsible for researching, analyzing credit risks, assessing credit history and approving or denying extension of credit to potential customers (Consumer & Commercial). The analyst will have daily contact with other departments within the corporation, as well as automotive dealers and other finance sources. An employee in this position will be required to interact with clients and third parties who may only understand and communicate in English. This position also requires that the candidate be able to interact fluidly with colleagues in our offices across Canada and the United States, where English is the predominant language. As we evaluate that a significant percentage of the work required by this position is to be performed in English, the language requirements for this position are a high level of reading comprehension and writing as well as a beginner level of oral communication.
In this role you will:
- Analyze consumer and commercial credit applications using bureau data and financials to make prudent credit decisions within policy.
- Maintain and exceed underwriting standards, targets, and risk guidelines while ensuring full policy compliance.
- Assess creditworthiness and approve or recommend appropriate credit terms and limits; escalate exceptions with clear recommendations.
- Perform thorough due diligence to support accurate, timely credit decisions.
- Build and maintain strong dealer relationships through proactive telephone engagement and responsive support.
- Deliver excellent customer service in a fast‑paced team environment by meeting turnaround times and processing requests efficiently.
- Negotiate loan terms and conditions with dealers within established approval and exception guidelines.
- Interpret financial statements and apply credit and operational risk management strategies to balance risk and profitability.
- Provide high‑quality service across inbound and outbound interactions, collaborate with business units and leadership, and contribute to process improvements.
What makes you an ideal candidate?
Strong understanding of fundamental lending principles and credit risk management.
Knowledge and interpretation of consumer and commercial credit bureau reports.
Proficient in detailed financial statement analysis, including ratio and cash‑flow assessment.
Advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills to underwrite loans and mitigate risk effectively.
Experience with automotive lending and leasing considered a strong asset.
High proficiency in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office applications).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong report‑writing capability.
Ability to negotiate business transactions effectively with automotive dealers.
Detail‑oriented, adaptable, organized, and able to perform independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment; bilingual English required, French preferred.
Experience & Education
Minimum of 2 years automotive direct lending experience is required.
Minimum education of a College or University business diploma or equivalent experience.

The base range for this role is: $63,500- $113,500
At GM Financial, we strive for transparency in all aspects of our business, including pay equity. This is the GM Financial pay range for this role and job level. The exact salary and compensation will vary based on factors like knowledge, skills, experience, and education.
This role is eligible to participate in a performance-based incentive plan. Full time employees are eligible to participate in health benefits after 30 days of employment.
