JOB DESCRIPTION
The Commissary Attendant & Barista works with a team in our School’s store and café, providing excellent customer service to our students, staff and other guests. This position works a varied schedule, and weekend shifts will be required.
Employment Type: Full-time, permanent. In-person position located on campus at 1975 Renfrew Road, Shawnigan Lake
Position Start Date: Ideal start date of mid-August 2026, though a later start may be considered.
Compensation: Compensation for this full-time role is $22.44 per hour, plus benefits.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Purchasing Coordinator, the Commissary Attendant & Barista will:
· Welcome and serve as a helpful information source for all customers including students, staff, parents and visitors of Shawnigan Lake School
· Perform cashiering tasks, including sales (through, cash, card, Apple Pay etc.), returns, payouts, charge sheet entries, and counting currency
· Receive, prepare and serve a variety of coffee drinks and snacks
· Stock, rotate, and price merchandise throughout the store, order and receive stock
· Provide sales of and assistance with uniform fittings and purchases
· Perform periodic inventory processes
· Complete regular tidying and straightening of merchandise and displays, work and dining areas throughout each shift. Restock and replenish supplies and equipment, empty trash, sanitize, clean equipment, utensils, service and seating areas.
· Assist with educating and training students to run the café
· Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; performing preventive maintenance and calling for repairs (when needed)
· Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following Industry; Shawnigan and Public Health standards and sanitation regulations
· Perform opening and closing tasks according to procedure
· Demonstrate flexibility when assigned tasks by the Purchasing Coordinator or Team Lead
· Other related tasks, as required
REQUIREMENTS
Education, Experience & Skills
· Grade 12 diploma, post secondary education an asset
· Valid Food safe level 1, preferred
· 1 - 2 years experience in retail service and/or food and beverage preparation preferred
· Experience as a barista preferred
· Demonstrated experience in customer service and hospitality preferred
· Exceptional listening and communication skills
· Proficient with a variety of software and computerized systems, including POS systems, Square, and MS Office
· Capable of responding to student situations with assertiveness while demonstrating sensitivity and discretion
· Ability to remain calm under pressure
· Proven record of professionalism, initiative, flexibility, and dependability
· Self-directed, independent, and extremely organized
· Excellent customer service skills that include the ability to deal professionally with a wide range of people, from students and teachers to parents and visitors
· An ability to respectfully manage customer issues and to confidently solve problems
· Thorough knowledge of and a commitment to safe food and beverage workplace practices
· Adaptable, dependable, willing to learn, and able to demonstrate significant flexibility with projects, assignments, and tasks
· Must be detail oriented with the ability to ensure quality of services in a busy and noisy environment
· Flexible availability to work varied shifts, including weekends, evenings, and some holidays
