About EXACT
EXACT builds game-changing technology for the concrete industry - the people creating the roads, bridges, tunnels, and buildings of the future. Our platform captures critical operational data from large constructors and precasters, and we're now building AI-powered tools that turn that data into actionable insights.
Our mission: make one of the world's largest and most carbon-intensive industries more efficient, sustainable, and safe.
We are looking for an IoT Firmware Engineer (Junior) to join the growing team in our Toronto office. You will design, develop, and maintain robust firmware for EXACT's IoT hardware platform, while working at the intersection of hardware connectivity, firmware development, and data integration.
In this role, you will be tasked to:
- Connect our hardware to our backend cloud portal, allowing customers to monitor their projects in real time with our IoT sensors
- Support the firmware team through code review and feature testing to deliver highly reliable products to the market
- Define test cases and write unit tests to effectively validate module design
- Implement drivers and validation tests for new custom hardware
- Design and implement firmware modules using C and C++, and standard design patterns and techniques
- Automate recurring tasks using Python, bash and Powershell
- Contribute improvements to our CI/CD pipeline
- Produce design documentation and cleanly written code to allow others to collaborate with you
- Work collaboratively to investigate and correct reported system behavioral abnormalities
- Use AI as part of the design, development and testing process to deliver features faster and increase firmware quality
- Collaborate with the hardware and and production teams on device test fixtures and test automation
To be successful in this role, you possess the following:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related degree
- Minimum of 2 years progressive post secondary experience specifically in firmware design and engineering for complex multi-disciplinary physical products
- Experience with revision control with git
- Experience with using and maintaining CI/CD
- Experience with bare-metal firmware development (i.e.STM32, nRF52, ESP32)
- Experience with C programming and familiarity with C++ and Python are required
- Experience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS), specifically Zephyr
- Experience with task management tools such as Jira are an asset
- Experience documenting and communicating your designs
- Ability to perform initial board bring-up testing and development
- Radio modules (Bluetooth and WiFi), LoRa, sensors (analog, digital), and communication protocols (RS-485, RS-232, SPI, I2C, USB, TCP/IP) are assets
Our ideal candidate is someone who is not just technically skilled but genuinely curious and eager to learn. You’re the type of person who dives into technical challenges with enthusiasm, whether you're debugging tricky firmware or optimizing code for performance.
