Quality child care programs help children build confidence, develop important life skills, and create lasting connections within their communities. Strong leadership is essential to ensuring families receive reliable, high-quality care and that staff feel supported in delivering exceptional experiences.
As School Age Child Care Manager, you will contribute directly to YMCA growth and service excellence by leading teams, supporting children and families, and helping ensure programs remain responsive, sustainable, and impactful.
Provide leadership and operational oversight for school age child care programs while fostering a positive and supportive environment for children, families, staff, and volunteers.
- Lead the day-to-day operations of Licensed Before and After School Care programs and Recreational Camps.
- Ensure programs comply with YMCA policies and procedures, licensing regulations, legal requirements, and YMCA curriculum standards.
- Support program growth and achievement of annual operating plan targets.
- Manage program budgets, resources, and operational projects while maximizing program participation and capacity.
- Provide leadership, coaching, training, and mentorship to child care employees and volunteers.
- Work directly with children when required to support program quality, staff coverage, and child development outcomes.
- Coordinate staff coverage for breaks, vacation, illness, and other operational needs.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, retention, and professional development of employees.
- Build positive relationships with families and assist with resolving concerns through effective communication and problem-solving.
- Work collaboratively with Child Care Supervisors to ensure smooth operations across multiple program locations.
- Participate in YMCA community initiatives and organizational events.
- Effectively manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Minimum three years of leadership or people management experience in licensed child care, child development, community services, or social service programs.
- Experience managing program budgets and operational resources.
- Experience leading full-cycle recruitment, employee development, and performance management processes.
- Strong understanding of child development principles and quality child care practices.
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience managing multiple priorities and supporting programs across multiple locations.
- Valid BC Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Certification is considered an asset (ECE-WE may be applicable).

- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between program locations as required (mileage reimbursed).
- Current First Aid and CPR-C certification, or willingness to obtain.
- Class 4 Driver's License, or willingness to obtain and support staff training toward certification.
- Successful Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search as required by YMCA policy and licensing regulations.
- Ability to work both in-ratio and out-of-ratio to support program operations and staffing requirements.
