Explorer Software is seeking a knowledgeable and security-focused IT System Administrator to join our fully remote IT team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the reliability, security, and performance of our cloud and corporate IT infrastructure across a distributed organization operating throughout North America and internationally. You’ll manage Microsoft Azure environments, endpoint security, identity and access management, and Microsoft 365 collaboration systems — serving as a key technical resource within a team that takes pride in operational excellence and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Director, IT, this is a full-time permanent position suited to a proactive, detail-oriented professional with a security-first mindset and a genuine commitment to internal customer service.
Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
- Administer and maintain Microsoft Azure environments, including virtual machines, networking, storage, and identity services, with a focus on scalability, performance, and cost management
- Manage Azure Active Directory, Entra ID, and hybrid identity configurations, including user provisioning, deprovisioning, and licensing
- Monitor system health, performance, and availability across cloud and internal systems, proactively addressing issues as they arise
- Administer and monitor endpoint detection and response platforms (e.g., CrowdStrike) and secure remote access solutions (e.g., Barracuda VPN), implementing MFA, conditional access, and zero-trust principles
- Support vulnerability management, patching, and remediation processes, and assist with incident response investigations and documentation
- Administer Microsoft 365 including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive, managing governance, email security, retention policies, and compliance configurations
- Maintain network infrastructure including firewalls, VPNs, and DNS; support endpoint management solutions such as Intune or comparable MDM platforms
- Oversee system backups, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity processes; provide tier 2 and tier 3 escalation support for complex technical issues
- Maintain clear and accurate system documentation, develop and improve IT policies and procedures, and identify opportunities to automate routine administrative tasks
- Stay current with emerging technologies, security trends, and industry best practices, applying new knowledge to strengthen Explorer’s IT environment
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in systems administration or IT infrastructure roles
Nice to Have:
- Certifications:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert
- Security certifications such as Security+, CISSP, or equivalent
- Technical Expertise:Strong Microsoft Azure administration experience
- Strong Microsoft Azure administration experience
- Proficiency with Barracuda VPN or similar secure remote access platforms
- Experience with CrowdStrike or comparable endpoint security solutions
- Advanced Microsoft 365 administration, including Teams governance and security
- Experience with Azure Active Directory and identity management
- Familiarity with Intune, device management, and endpoint configuration
- Knowledge of security frameworks, vulnerability management, and patch management processes
- Understanding of backup strategies and disaster recovery planning
