As Lead Automotive Technician, you'll serve as the technical backbone of our service department — diagnosing the toughest issues, performing advanced repairs, and guiding a team of technicians to deliver consistent, high-quality work. You'll split your time between wrenching on vehicles yourself and coaching others, making sure every job that leaves the bay meets our standard of excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, and computer-based vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension.
- Perform and oversee routine and preventive maintenance services to ensure consistent quality across the shop.
- Lead, train, and mentor junior and mid-level technicians, sharing diagnostic techniques and best practices to raise the overall skill level of the team.
- Review and approve completed work for quality control before vehicles are returned to customers.
- Use diagnostic scan tools, OEM software, and manuals to accurately identify issues and recommend appropriate repairs.
- Provide technical guidance to the service advisor team to help generate accurate estimates and explain repairs to customers.
- Maintain organized, safe, and efficient work practices in compliance with shop safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Keep up to date with new vehicle technologies, manufacturer service bulletins, and industry certifications.
- Manage workflow and job assignments on the shop floor to keep technicians productive and on schedule.
- Maintain accurate digital records of diagnostics, repairs performed, and parts used.
- Assist with inventory management, ordering parts, and maintaining shop tools and equipment in good working order.
- Uphold and model excellent customer service standards, including clear communication about vehicle issues and repair timelines.
What We're Looking For
- 1 -2 years of experience as an automotive technician, with at least 1–2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
- Valid driver's license in good standing.
- Strong diagnostic skills across a wide range of makes/models, including modern electric and hybrid systems (an asset).
- Proven ability to mentor and guide other technicians.
- Comfortable using digital diagnostic tools, shop management software, and OEM service platforms.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- A genuine passion for vehicles and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
