Job Summary
We are seeking a talented and creative Technical-Production Designer to join our signage team. The ideal candidate will develop technical sign packages and layouts, along with production files, to meet job-specific requirements for wayfinding and identification signage in complex environments like condominiums, public buildings, commercial offices, hotels and retail spaces.
This role requires a strong foundation in translating conceptual designs into physical, durable signage using varied materials, creating high-impact, buildable designs that balance brand aesthetics with practical fabrication requirements.
Requirements
- Experience Level: 3 plus years in signage, environmental graphic design or industrial design
- Education: A degree in Graphic Design, Industrial Design or Architecture
- Software Proficiency: Knowledge of vector-based software is a must. All in-house layouts and production files are CorelDRAW facilitated. We are a PC based work environment; Excel, Gmail, Google applications, 3D rendering software (SketchUp, 3D Shaper), CAD based software and raster editing programs is an asset.
Core Technical & Design Skills
- Technical Design: Knowledge of materials (aluminum, acrylic, vinyl), fabrication processes and installation techniques to develop detailed fabrication specifications, including structural mounting details, and assembly diagrams for production teams.
- Production Setup: Nesting files of various materials for specific devices, using a CNC router, laser, wide-format vinyl printing and plotting
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring signage meets accessibility standards (e.g., ADA compliance)
- Design Principles: Strong grasp of typography, color theory, layout, and composition for readability.
Project & Process Skills
- Communication & Collaboration: Act as a bridge between coordinators and the production team, effectively communicating design concepts. Communication skills both verbal and written
- Project Management: Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines from initial layouts and revisions to final production.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate within a team environment
- Problem Solving: The ability to analyze and resolve design, file, and manufacturing issues.
- Emphasis on attention to detail with excellent organizational & proofing skills
