Black Diamond Group’s Workforce Solutions Fleet department has a full-time, contract position for a Yard Laborer.
The Yard Laborer is responsible for maintaining the Fort St.John yard and ensuring the site remains safe, clean, organized, and operational. This position supports branch operations through general housekeeping, yard maintenance, material handling, environmental stewardship, and traffic control activities.
The ideal candidate will promote, execute, and adhere to Black Diamond's safety programs and encourage contractors and visitors to do the same. This role is branch-based and is not considered a field position; however, opportunities for advancement into field operations may become available as experience and skills are developed.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized yard environment.
- Remove garbage, debris, and discarded materials from the yard and work areas.
- Perform general yard housekeeping and maintenance activities.
- Clean up topsoil, clay, and debris resulting from asset movements and installations.
- Maintain roadways, access areas, and designated storage locations.
- Clean rig mats and ensure proper disposal of accumulated materials.
- Direct truck drivers and contractors to designated sweep-off and unloading areas.
- Assist with receiving, staging, and organizing materials and assets within the yard.
- Report spills, hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Participate in spill response activities as required.
- Ensure all Black Diamond Health and Safety policies, operational procedures, and environmental requirements are followed.
- Work independently while complying with Working Alone procedures and communication requirements.
- Maintain positive behaviors, approaches, attitudes, and commitments to customers, subcontractors, visitors, and coworkers.
- Support branch operations with miscellaneous yard duties and minor maintenance activities.
- Operate company equipment safely and within the limits of training and competency.
- Prepare and maintain basic records or reports when required.
- Understand, interpret, and apply general administrative and departmental policies and procedures.
- Participate in required company training programs, including safety, operational, and computer-based training.
- Utilize company software and systems as required for timesheets, inspections, training, communications, and other branch activities.
- Develop basic computer skills and familiarity with company operating systems to support future career development opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in yard operations, construction, labor, or industrial environments is considered an asset.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and housekeeping.
- Loader or forklift experience is considered an asset.
- Currently holds or is willing to obtain required safety tickets.
- Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and mobile applications are considered an asset.
- Willingness to learn company software, inspection systems, and other operational platforms.
- Demonstrated desire for continuous learning and professional development.
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract.
- Fluent in English, both oral and written.
