REGISTERED DIETITIAN
Independent Contractor (Revenue-Share) | British Columbia
WHY WORK WITH COOVA HEALTH?
What if nutrition care could look the way it should, integrated with mental health, respectful of culture and food access, and grounded in the real circumstances of someone's life rather than a generic meal plan?
That's the job. Integrated care. Whole-person nutrition. Real-world application. You finally get to do dietetics the way you always believed it should be done.
WHO WE ARE
Coova Health provides private case management for individuals, families, and community organizations navigating challenging situations. We are who you call when someone is consulting with multiple specialists, each speaking different professional terminology, and there is no single point of continuity. We bring structure, support, accountability, and clarity to layered cases, walking alongside healthcare providers, schools, caregivers, families, and all who are part of someone's circle of care.
YOUR ROLE
- Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments considering health history, medications, lifestyle, cultural context, food access, and the client's emotional relationship with eating
- Develop individualized, evidence-based nutrition care plans that become practical living tools
- Support chronic disease management, diabetes, GI conditions (IBS, Crohn's, celiac), cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, metabolic conditions, and layered comorbidities
- Address the intersection of nutrition and mental health, medication impacts on appetite and weight, stress eating, fatigue, cognitive functioning, and food-related distress
- Support clients navigating food insecurity, budget constraints, and cultural food preferences with dignity
- Incorporate weight-inclusive and Health at Every Size (HAES) principles where clinically appropriate
- Adapt when plans shift or a client's circumstances change and staying steady and solutions-oriented when situations become complicated
WHAT YOU BRING
Must-haves:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or Food and Nutrition from an accredited program
- Active registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC) in good standing
- 2–3+ years of dietetics experience with community, mental health, chronic disease, or integrated care settings preferred
- Comprehensive understanding of CHCPBC standards of practice and relevant British Columbia legislation
- Demonstrated ability to conduct individualized, evidence-based nutrition assessments and develop practical care plans
- Strong understanding of the intersection between nutrition, mental health, and social determinants of health
- Experience addressing food access challenges, cultural food practices, and the realities of clients with limited resources
- Clear, concise documentation skills that would hold up to regulatory scrutiny
- Ability to clearly identify and articulate gaps in nutrition care, then apply a solution-focused mindset
- Give and receive constructive feedback with professionalism and genuine openness: thought partnership is central to how we build excellent care plans
- Adapt when plans shift or a client's circumstances change. You stay steady and solutions-oriented
- Professional liability insurance (minimum $2 million coverage)
- Valid BC driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for work-related purposes, with business use insurance coverage
Bonus skills:
- Experience in mental health dietetics and behavioural health integration
- Experience supporting eating disorder recovery within scope and within collaborative frameworks
- Knowledge of medication-nutrition interactions and gastrointestinal conditions
- Training in motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, or culturally responsive practice
- Experience working with seniors, youth, newcomers, LGBTQ2S+ individuals, or people with disabilities
- Bilingual or multilingual capacity
WHAT WE OFFER
- Revenue-share model: your compensation increases with your experience and tenure at Coova
- Flexible scheduling that accommodates your other commitments
- Autonomy backed by clinical supervision
- Interdisciplinary collaboration as every case is held by a team, not a single clinician
- Engaging, layered cases where nutrition is genuinely integrated into the care plan
- A genuine opportunity to help shape a first-of-its-kind private care model
WHO THRIVES IN THIS ROLE
This role is ideal for dietitians who:
- Are energized by the complexity of nutrition care when it intersects with mental health, chronic illness, culture, and access
- Think critically, empathetically, and collaboratively when care spans multiple providers. You understand that everyone in healthcare is doing their best within system constraints
- Value depth and continuity over volume and prefer building sustainable plans alongside clients rather than prescribing from a distance
- Approach food, culture, and eating without judgment
- Stay calm and constructive when care involves many moving pieces and lead with problem-solving skills and partnership
- Hold clinical precision and deep humanity in equal measure
