Reporting to the Superintendent, you are responsible for supporting various deep excavation and shoring projects throughout the southern part of The Island.

Western Grater Contracting is a highly specialized contractor serving Vancouver Island. Our services include blasting and slope stabilization, drilling, shoring and shotcrete shoring, grouting and anchors. Our experienced team delivers safe and efficient solutions for technically challenging excavation and construction projects, maintaining the highest standards of safety and client satisfaction.
Reporting to the Superintendent, you will work closely with Hydraulic Drillers and the Shoring and Foundation team to support drilling operations on-site across various projects.
· Assist with daily drilling operations and setup on-site
· Support positioning and alignment of drill rigs and equipment
· Handle and organize tools, drill rods, casings, and materials
· Load and support self-drilling anchor installations on Percussion Drills
· Ensure hydraulic and airline hoses are properly connected and free of obstructions
· Perform pre-checks on equipment and assist in maintenance and cleaning
· Assist with anchor installation, grouting, and casing removal under direction
· Follow instructions to maintain a safe and efficient work environment
· Attend and actively participate in all mandatory safety meetings
· Perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing, and working on congested worksites
· Ensure site is clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards
-Experience in Pipe and Foundation Anchor Operationsan asset but not required
· 1+ years of experience in a construction or drilling environment preferred but not required.
· Familiarity with shoring, anchoring, or ground engineering is an asset
· Physically fit to work: ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights
· Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and ground environments
· Self-motivated, reliable, and eager to learn
· Ability to follow direction and work effectively within a crew
· Good communication skills and a strong safety mindset
· Holds a valid driver’s license and can travel within the Province of BC
Compensation:
This is a unionized position with WGC - BC Regional Council of Carpenters. This position will earn Union wages and will have access to extended Union healthcare and benefits, a Union-sponsored pension plan, and additional training through the Training Plan. Expected hourly rate: Unionized wage range for this position is $28.05 - $33.46 per hour (based on candidate’s experience), plus 12% vacation/statutory holiday pay.
