Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Developmental Service Worker (DSW) to support individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex/high-support needs in both center-based and residential environments. This role requires flexibility, professionalism, and a strong commitment to person-centered, trauma-informed care.
The successful candidate will work through the combined lens of developmental support and personal care, ensuring safety, dignity, and quality of life while supporting skill development, regulation, and community inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to individuals with Autism and complex needs, including personal care, daily living skills, and community integration.
- Implement Individual Support Plans (ISPs), Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), and safety plans.
- Support emotional regulation and utilize proactive and reactive strategies in accordance with UMAB or equivalent training.
- Assist with personal hygiene, toileting, feeding, mobility, and medication administration as per training and policy.
- Facilitate and participate in recreational, life-skills, and community-based activities.
- Accurately complete daily documentation, progress notes, and incident reports in accordance with Ministry requirements.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, infection prevention, and emergency protocols.
- Collaborate with supervisors, clinicians, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care.
- Provide transportation support for clients to programs, appointments, and community outings as required. Vehicles provided by the employer*
Qualifications & Requirements
Required:
- Developmental Service Worker (DSW) Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of direct experience supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or dual diagnosis. Individuals aged 15 into adulthood*
- Valid Ontario G Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- UMAB or equivalent crisis prevention/intervention certification (CPI, NVCI accepted).
- Current First Aid & CPR certification.
- Ability to work flexible shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check. (valid within the last 3 months)
- Two current professional references.
Assets (Preferred):
- Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) certification.
- Experience in high-needs or intensive support environments.
- Familiarity with MCCSS Quality Assurance Measures (QAM).
- Experience with AAC systems, visual supports, and structured programming.
