We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations for our clients custom manufacturing facility in Cobourg.

The Controller will be responsible for managing the company’s financial health, ensuring accurate reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting operational decision-making through detailed financial analysis and reporting. The ideal candidate will have experience in a manufacturing environment with a strong understanding of job costing, inventory management, production reporting, and financial planning.
This position plays a key leadership role within the organization and works closely with ownership, operations, purchasing, and production teams to improve profitability, efficiencies, and overall financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and bank reconciliations
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements
- Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to management regarding profitability, cost control, and operational improvements
- Develop and maintain financial reporting systems and dashboards
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes
- Coordinate annual audits and work with external accountants and financial institutions
Manufacturing & Cost Accounting
- Manage and oversee manufacturing cost accounting processes
- Develop and maintain accurate job costing for custom trailer builds and manufacturing projects
- Monitor labour, material, overhead, and production costs to ensure accurate costing and profitability analysis
- Analyze variances between estimated and actual production costs
- Assist operations management in improving production efficiencies and reducing waste
- Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and inventory valuation
- Ensure accurate inventory controls and reconciliation procedures are maintained
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Prepare annual budgets and financial forecasts
- Monitor financial performance against budget and identify variances
- Provide forecasting and cash flow analysis to support strategic planning and business growth
- Assist leadership with capital expenditure planning and equipment investment analysis
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Develop and maintain strong internal accounting controls and procedures
- Ensure compliance with government regulations, payroll remittances, HST filings, and corporate reporting requirements
- Monitor company insurance, financing agreements, and banking relationships
- Assist with risk management and financial policy development
Leadership & Team Support
- Supervise and support accounting and administrative staff
- Provide mentorship, training, and performance management where required
- Collaborate with department managers to improve communication between finance and operations
- Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to overall business strategy
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- CPA designation preferred or equivalent accounting experience
- Minimum 5+ years of accounting/finance experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting and inventory management
- Experience with ERP systems and accounting software
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
- Strong understanding of payroll, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Pay: $110,000.00-$125,000.00 per year
