Our Direct Support Professionals provide a wide range of supports to adults with an intellectual disability so they can live with dignity, choice and belonging. This program provides 24-hour support within a group home setting.
This position requires flexibility to work all rotating shifts, including days, afternoons and overnights, in alignment with needs and routines of the people supported. Scheduled primarily for afternoons, evenings and weekends and you may also be scheduled for either awake and/or asleep overnight shifts if required. Additional shifts and on-call opportunities available, based on seniority.
Responsibilities:
- Create a warm, supportive and inclusive living environment by working closely with a team to ensure people supported feel safe and valued.
- Provide hands-on support with daily living activities, including personal care, bedside and personal hygiene (helping people move, bathe and groom with dignity, independency, privacy, preference and safety), agency transportation, administering medication and meal preparation (i.e., cooking, plating, feeding).
- Assist people with disabilities in achieving their personal goals, fostering independence, meaningful relationships, and participation in the community.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of each person at all times.

What you Bring?
- Completion or working towards completion of a Certificate, Community College Diploma or University degree, in a related field.
- Experience providing care and supporting people with physical or intellectual disabilities.
- A team mindset, strong emotional intelligence and confidence working in home settings.
- Comfort with personal care, homemaking and promoting daily independence.
- Availability and flexibility to work a variety of shifts.
- Valid “G2” or “G” Driver's License and with $1 Million Liability Insurance.
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check Clearance.
- Emergency First Aid & CPR Certification.
- Experience administrating medication and knowledge of assistive devices is an asset.
- Completion of Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Training. Training links can be accessed through www.clstcatharines.ca under “Careers”).
