The Job – Drywaller/Painter
Join On Side Restoration as a Drywaller/Painter and help rebuild homes and businesses after disaster strikes. You’ll repair and finish drywall, apply textures, and bring spaces to life with fresh paint.
What you bring as a Drywaller/Painter
- 5+ years of drywall repair experience (cutting, mudding, sanding, taping, painting)
- Experience with restoration repairs (vs new or renovation)
- Level 5 drywall finishing technique
- Brush/roller/spray gun paint experience to finish the area for uniformity and completion
- Construction experience and tool proficiency: you have your own tools for the job
- Previous experience reading and executing work orders
- Texturing skills (knockdown, popcorn, orange peel)
- Leadership to guide helpers and train less experienced workers
- Physically fit: able to do heavy lifting (moving materials) and long periods of kneeling/bending/crouching/reaching
- Ability to work independently or in a team
- Tech-savvy (comfortable using apps/software)
- Strong communication and people skills
- Detail-oriented, quality-driven, safety-focused
- Valid driver’s licence and clean criminal record (we do check)
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken
What you’re responsible for…
- Measure, cut, install, and repair damaged drywall
- Estimate the quantity of materials required by measuring surfaces, reviewing scopes, sketches and work orders
- Ceiling texture
- Tape, mud, sand, and texture surfaces
- Prepare and protect work sites
- Prepare surfaces and apply primers, paints, stains, or finishes
- Apply finishes that are sponged, ragged and layered
- Feathering/blending wall paint
- Stucco finishes/repairs
- Match colors and apply coatings using brushes, rollers, or spray guns
- Install wall coverings
Other stuff that’ll help you be successful but isn’t mandatory:
- Drywall Finisher or Plasterer ticket
- Painter ticket
- WHMIS
- First Aid
Of Note
Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement. Meaning you’ll work regular weekday hours and participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule.

- Cross training is required for this role. Successful candidates will be trained in Emergency, Demolition and Water Damage. Are you able and willing to train and work in other roles?
- Restoration work requires documentation and tracking throughout your workday. Do you have basic computer and/or tablet/iPad experience? Are you comfortable operating a phone to navigate through applications and record info as instructed?

- This position requires lots of standing, crouching, bending, reaching, kneeling, etc. Are you capable of this kind of constant movement?
- Do you have your own trade tools for drywall and painting? Please note that On Side provides materials and supplies.
- Are you able to work a rotating on call schedule, responding to emergency calls after regular hours? This on call work is in addition to your scheduled daytime hours, and premium pay as well as overtime will be provided.
- This role involves working in homes affected by fire or flood damage and completing drywall repairs from start to finish, including installation, taping, mudding, texturing, and final paint. The ideal candidate can fully restore damaged areas of a home. Please explain why you would be a strong fit for this position.
Experience:
- drywalling and finishing: 5 years (preferred)
- brush and roller painting: 5 years (preferred)
