Job Summary
The Heavy Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient movement, loading, and unloading of heavy materials within the plant or yard. This role supports production and logistics by ensuring materials are accurately staged, transported, and stored according to project schedules and safety standards.
Duties
- Operate forklifts, and other material-handling equipment to move large or heavy components.
- Load and unload raw materials, steel, modules, and components safely and efficiently.
- Stage materials for production according to work orders and schedules.
- Inspect materials for damage, defects, or non-conformance prior to delivery to work areas.
- Assist with inventory counts, tracking, and material identification.
- Maintain organized storage areas and ensure clear access to all materials.
- Follow all workplace safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, PPE, and load-handling protocols.
- Support production teams with timely delivery and removal of materials as required.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, production leads, and logistics personnel.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and report maintenance issues immediately.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in heavy material handling, construction, or manufacturing.
- Valid forklift certification (required); experience with large yard forklifts an asset.
- Ability to safely lift and maneuver up to 50 lbs regularly; knowledge of safe rigging practices preferred.
- Strong understanding of workplace safety and hazard awareness (OHSA standards).
- Reliable, punctual, and capable of working both independently and in a team environment.
We currently have 2 positions for day shift and 2 positions available for afternoons.
