Home Hardware Building Centre in Burford is seeking an experienced, hands-on Yard Foreman to lead the daily operations of our lumber and building materials yard. This leadership role is ideal for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working with people, and has a strong understanding of building materials, logistics, and equipment operation.
As Yard Foreman, you will be responsible for coordinating yard activities, supervising staff, ensuring safe and efficient material handling, and delivering outstanding service to our contractor and retail customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate all daily yard operations.
- Develop loading plans and organize delivery schedules to ensure accurate and efficient order fulfillment.
- Work closely with the Contractor Sales team to coordinate deliveries and customer requirements.
- Supervise, coach, and support yard associates, forklift operators, and material handlers.
- Ensure safe loading, unloading, storage, and movement of materials throughout the yard.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, workplace safety regulations, and load securement requirements.
- Monitor inventory handling practices to minimize product damage, loss, and shrinkage.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional yard environment.
- Assist customers and contractors with product selection, loading, and order pickup.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in a lumber yard, building materials operation, warehouse, or related industry.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience is considered a strong asset.
- Solid knowledge of lumber, building materials, and millwork products.
- Proven forklift operating experience with a strong focus on safety and efficiency.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence with a clean driving record.
- Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and team leadership abilities.
- Ability to work independently while leading a small team.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Physically capable of performing the duties associated with the position.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible hours as required.
