Main duties and responsibilities:
- Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems
- Post journal entries and reconcile accounts, prepare trial balance of books, maintain general ledgers and prepare financial statements
- Calculate and prepare cheques for payrolls and for utility, tax and other bills
- Complete and submit tax remittance forms, workers' compensation forms, pension contribution forms and other government documents
- Prepare tax returns and perform other personal bookkeeping services
- Prepare statistical and financial reports
- Monitor and track expenses against budgets, prepare reports for budget comparisons, and assist in cost analysis for industrial projects in forestry, energy, and other industrial sectors
- Assist in project cost analysis by compiling and reconciling financial data from multiple sources
- Assist with budget forecasts and analysis to support the project management team
- Maintain project accounting records and assist with financial reporting related to ongoing industrial projects.
Education requirement:
Completion of a college program in accounting, bookkeeping or a related field, OR completion of two years of a recognized accounting program, OR courses in accounting or bookkeeping with several years of equivalent experience.
Experience requirement:
At least two years of experience as an accounting technician, bookkeeper, or in a related accounting role is required. Experience must include payroll administration, preparation of financial records and reports, account reconciliations, and government remittances. At least one year of experience in a project-focused environment involving cost tracking across multiple concurrent projects, budget monitoring, variance reporting, and project financial reporting is required.
Additional Skills Requirements
Proficiency with Quickbooks accounting software, as well as Microsoft Excel, including the use of formulas, spreadsheets, and financial reporting functions, is required. Familiarity with AutoCAD drawings and project documentation used within engineering and industrial project environments is an asset. Experience using time-tracking and project-costing software, such as Clockify, is considered an asset.
